Kiev offers endless opportunities for tourism. Your trip may be one of the most pleasurable experiences in your life. The way you will spend your vacations will depend on how well you have prepared for traveling. An Ukrainian visa is required when you enter the country. There are several types of visa that you can apply for. Before traveling to Ukraine, contact your insurance company and find out if its policy applies overseas and which health expenses it may cover.

Kiev is the capital city of Ukraine, its largest economical, political, educational and cultural center. Kiev offers endless opportunities for tourism. Traveling to this city may be one of the most pleasurable experiences in your life. Ukrainians' very lifestyle will be as interesting to foreign visitors as the capital's major attractions and museums.


Tourists have a possibility to get acquainted with the history and culture of Ukraine from very ancient to modern times. The most famous historical and cultural monuments are in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as in cities: Kiev, Lvov, Odessa, Chernigiv, Kamyanets-Podilsky. A great number of archaeological monuments is concentrated in the southern part of Ukraine. Tourists may be interested in the excavations of ancient towns of the northern Black Sea Side - Tira, Olviya, Chersonese, Panticapea, as well as in archaeological museums in Odessa, Kerch and Kiev.


In many respects, your trip will depend on how well you have prepared for traveling. This section of our guide contains information on visas to Ukraine, travel insurance, accommodation and some important things you should remember.


Foreign citizens need an Ukrainian visa to enter the country. There are several types of visa an international traveler may apply for. Note that the Ukrainian Government doesn't issue visas at the time of entry into Ukraine. One should obtain a visa in advance, before traveling. If you are transiting the country, without staying there, a visa is also required.


You may apply for visa to Ukraine at the Consular/Visa Section of the Ukraine Embassy. For all types of visas (business, private, tourist, transit etc.) the following documents should be submitted: completed visa application form for each applicant holding a separate passport or being included in the joint passport; fully valid passport/travel document (C.I.D.) (photocopies are not acceptable); two recent passport sized photographs; invitation (depending on the purpose of journey to Ukraine the invitation should be obtained); two separate postal orders (or company cheques) covering the handling charge and visa fee; contact telephone numbers of all applicants (work, home or mobile).
Fully passport/travel document (C.I.D.) should be valid for at least one month after the intended date of departure from Ukraine. Children under 16 years old who are included in the passport of their parent/guardian are not required to fill out a separate form.


The documents could be submitted/collected personally, by post or by courier.
It is advisable to apply for a visa not less than one month prior to your prospective departure date. Due to the heavy fall of requests during the spring and summer months, longer processing time (up to 12 days) may be required.
Before traveling to Ukraine, it's recommended that you contact your insurance company and find out if its policy applies overseas and which health expenses it may cover. As a rule, cover is rather limited. It's advisable to shop around and choose the most appropriate one, as prices and conditions might vary greatly.
