Kfc is now associated with chicken. It is mainly due to Colonel Harland Sanders, who was first to introduce a new kind of cooker, used to make Original Recipe Chicken. Sanders started his business in 1952 and by 1964 he had more than 600 kfc chicken franchisees in the United States and Canada. As of 2005 kfc chicken operates in 100 countries of the world, including Canada, Brazil, Australia, China, the United Kingdom, Japan, New Zealand and others.
The KFC menu gradually expanded to include coleslaw, potato-based items, chicken nuggets, pork ribs, hamburgers, biscuits and a variety of desserts. And still the company is famous for its kfc chicken, the recipe of which is kept in secret. Over years Colonel Harland Sanders perfected the secret combination of eleven herbs and spices, used for cooking chicken. However some of the primary ingredients were revealed: salt, ground black pepper, flour and monosodium glutamate.
In 1990s kfc chicken was accused of producing chicken products, which were made from a genetically engineered chicken. It is one of the versions why Kentucky Fried Chicken adopted its abbreviated form: the chicken were so altered that it was difficult to call them "chicken". These chickens are believed to be kept alive by tubes, supplying nutrients and blood through their bodies. It was the requirement of the government to change the name so that the word chicken would be eliminated from the menu. All these versions have been spread throughout Internet in order to make kfc chicken use real chicken again. The reality is that engineered chickens have never existed. They have never been approved for consumption in any country of the world. The shortened name of Kentucky Fried Chicken has to do with the changes in its menu, which appears to now have more non-fried chicken products. The word "chicken" is still used by the company in various advertisements.
The latest innovation on the kfc menu is the marinated hot and crispy chicken. You can find vegs at KFC Chicken as well, since the restaurant offers a large variety of vegetarian products, including the tangy, the veg-de-lite burger, the veg crispy burger and lip-smacking paneer tikka. The kfc menu also offers a number of combinations: the veg fingers can be combined with a spice curry and peppery rice. The condiments can be consumed as well, since they don't contain eggs. Taking into consideration the fact that most countries have no vegetarian menu, the kfc menu for vegetarians turns out to be the most extensive and exclusive. KFC's chicken products are also modified in order to suit local tastes. The restaurant's menu is considered to be traditional in Europe and the United States and experimental in Asia and India. Asian tastes differ much from Western ones, that's why the changes in the kfc menu have been introduced. Trying to meet requirements of People For Ethnical Treatment of Animals, KFC maintains safeguards on the production of non-vegetarian products. The chain has been the target of PETA's campaign since 2003.
