Kentucky Fried Chicken Keeps in Secret the Recipe of its Chicken

The history of potato fries refers back to the beginning of the XX century, the time of the World War I. Having tasted thinly-sliced potato, American soldiers called it French fries. That is the reason why potato fries are often referred to as french fries. But to tell the truth, many possible claims as to the origin of "french fries" exist. The first Kentucky Fried Chicken was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders in Corbin, Kentucky in 1939. The first franchise appeared in South Salt Lake, Utah in 1952. Today Kentucky Fried Chicken is owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. The restaurant network is famous for its fried chicken, which is cooked in hot oil with a dressing combination of flour, salt and pepper. The restaurant is often operates under the name of KFC; in Quebec, Canada, it is also known as PFK (Poulet Frit Kentucky).

Colonel Harland Sanders started his business moving from one restaurant to another and offering chicken for the restaurant owners and their employees. In most of the cases he was a success: they signed an agreement, which stipulated that Sanders would get a nickel for each chicken the restaurant sold. In 1964, he sold his share to a group of investors. On July 1971, Kentucky Fried Chicken was bought by Heublein Inc., and, in 1982, it became a part of R.J.Reynolds Industries, Inc. Today it is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc, the company, which owns all A&W American fast food restaurants, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell networks. Taking into account its 32,000 units in 100 countries, Kentucky Fried Chicken is considered to be the largest fast food restaurant company in the world.

Colonel Harland Sanders began franchising his business in 1955 and had about 600 franchisees in the United States and Canada by 1964. Today, people in more than 80 countries are able to enjoy the food of Kentucky Fried Chicken. It has opened its franchises in the United States, Canada, Australia, China, Brazil, United Kingdom, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and South Africa. More than a billion of chicken dinners are sold annually.

In order to get rid of association with unhealthy "fried", Kentucky Fried Chicken introduced the KFC abbreviation in 1991. Next attempt was made in 2004, and the name changed to "Kitchen Fresh Chicken".

However, in 2005, a new restaurant was opened in Kentucky under its original name and the company plans to add 50 restaurants more in the next year.
The items on the Kentucky Fried Chicken menu include French fries, potato wedges, whipped potato with gravy, corn on the cob, coleslaw, chicken nuggets, hamburgers, pork ribs and biscuits. There is also a wide range of vegetarian products, such as veg de-lite burger, the tangy and the veg crispy burger. To veggies the restaurant offers the veg fingers with streaming, peppery rice and sauces, which do not contain eggs.

Species used in the chicken, about eleven elements, are the top secret of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Some of the primary ingredients include flour, salt, ground black pepper and monosodium glutamate. It was Colonel Harland Sanders, who had invented the cooking technique, which is still used today. He achieved the final taste of its product by adding various species to the chicken. There was still one problem: the customers had to wait almost 30 minutes for the chicken to be prepared. Sanders made some adjustments in the pressure cooker and reduced the time of cooking to a few minutes, which did not influence the taste of chicken. Nowadays, there are several various types of cookers for Chicken Original recipe, but all of them use that origin approach, contrived by Colonel Harland Sanders. Today, the company takes all precautions to keep the original recipe in secret.

Since 2003, Kentucky Fried Chicken was involved in a series of campaigns by PETA, which drew particular attention to the alleged cruelty to animals.
