Jackson Hole, Wyoming -- An Inspiring and Breathtaking Visit

Added: 04/15/2006

Jackson Hole, Wyoming - a place where real-life outlaws roamed and where the ghosts of the old west still haunt abandoned saloons and ghost towns of another era. With bears, buffalo, elk, wolves, pronghorn antelope, bobcats, lots of cattle and the terrain the animals tread Wyoming is an attraction in its own. The state is also endowed with two of the country's most spectacular national parks, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Don't pass up your chance to see it all in Wyoming!

Wyoming boasts its spectacular parks. With the spewing geysers, bubbling hot pots and colorful canyons, Yellowstone is one of the most impressive pieces of wilderness in the U.S. And Grand Teton's scenery - wildflowers set against a backdrop of craggy purple peaks - is hard to beat. Both parks are good places to get out of the car and take a hike. But even with the popularity of Yellowstone, there is much undiscovered land in this vast state. The most popular places in the state to visit are: Jackson, Cheyenne, Cody, Yellowstone National Park, Rock Springs, Laramie, Casper and others.

The Town of Jackson is the county seat of Teton County, Wyoming and the only incorporated municipality in the county. Jackson is the name of the Town, and "Jackson Hole" as it's often called, refers to the whole area which is a 50 miles long valley surrounded by high mountains. Jackson is a popular tourism destination because of its proximity to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, its unmatched scenic beauty, the world-class skiing, and its western character. Jackson Hole has grown to be one of the leading destinations for a western Rocky Mountain vacation.

The glacially carved valley is large and vast, surrounded by mountain ranges, national forest, national wilderness and national parks. Along with the spectacular scenery and geologic phenomenon, the valley offers one of the most diverse wildlife populations in the lower 48. The colorful history of the valley, influenced by Indians, fur trappers, early explorers and homesteaders is unique and offers a wealth of understanding to the place known today as Jackson Hole.

There's incredible amount of things to do in the region. You'll be inspired to get up the next day for another adventure. The overgrown community of Jackson is tucked in at the end of Jackson Hole, ten miles from Teton Park's southern gate. Hunched around a tree-shaded square, marked by an arch of tangled elk antlers at each corner the place offers the Old West-style boardwalks of downtown, craft shops and over thirty galleries.

Every summer evening, except Sundays, an amateurish shoot-out is staged in the town square. In winter, you can spend a good time visiting the National Elk Refuge on the north edge of town, where you can take a horse-drawn sleigh ride among herd of elk.
Jackson is the home for two of Wyoming's best ski areas: Snow King is Jackson's family-friendly hill lit for night-skiing, and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is a massive mountain with a huge vertical drop and terrain best suited to upper intermediate-to-extreme downhillers.

Out at Teton Village, home of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort aerial trams swoosh their way to the top of Rendezvous Mountain where there's a spectacular panorama of the valley and mountain ranges.

Jackson Hole is really a place like none other. Pack up the family, grab your spouse, gather your friends together and get out here to enjoy everything that the region has to offer!
