Manchester Metropolitan Business School (MMUBS for short) traces its history back to 1889- the moment of Manchester Metropolitan University foundation. The school is the most popular faculty of it. It was formed in 2004 as a result of merger of the accounting, finance, management and business schools of UMIST and the Victoria University of Manchester. Though the history of the Manchester School of Business is rather short, it enjoys great authority as a peer business college. Since the very time of its opening, the Manchester Business school served as the main promoter of business education. Today, this is a 'full-range' business school, offering undergraduate, postgraduate and higher research degrees in all major sub-disciplines of business and management. A lot of, if not all, of undergraduate programmes lead to a degree, diploma or certificate; some of them give right a person to compete for an award of the EdExcel Foundation (formerly the BTEC) or to membership in a professional body.
Manchester School of business is a faculty of large Manchester Metropoplitan Univerity in England, which is probably the fourth largest university in Britain. The number of students is over 20,000 full-time ones and 10,000 part-time, some 3,000 undergraduate and 1,500 postgraduate students (including 60 PhD and 350 professional accounting students). The popularity of Manchester School of Business makes it also the biggest campus-based business school in the UK. The university maintains five campuses in Manchester, as well as two in Crewe and Alsager in Cheshire, where around 2000 students and over200 members of teaching staff live. The ratio of the students to teachers is optimal enough to make the studying process most effective. Not a wonder teaching programmes of Manchester School of Business have an excellent reputation nationally and internationally. For example, in the 2000/01 review by the UK government's Quality Assurance Agency it was awarded 'excellent' for the quality of the teaching.
One more value of Manchester School of Business is its profound research in the sphere of economy and finance. And each student of the school must obey the strong commitment of studying any business problem during the period of education.. That gives the learners both theoretical and practical knowledge. That` s why the alumni are of strong claim by many international companies, enjoying great authority in the world of business.
Speaking about the programs themselves, there is a comprehensive range of postgraduate qualifications there: from certificates to doctoral degrees, providing a 'ladder' of opportunities for individuals at different stages of their business and management careers. Manchester School of Business have a large doctoral training programme with 60 MPhil/PhD students at any one time. Manchester Metropolitan Business school provides in-house courses and consultancy services not only for corporate clients but for all comers.
