InterContinental the Barclay - One of the Renowned InterContinental Hotels

Added: 03/15/2006

Known originally as the Barclay, InterContinental the Barclay New York opened in November 1926 and immediately established its reputation for exclusivity and distinction. While being one of the oldest hotels in the area, it is also one of the most elegant and glamorous hotels close to Park Avenue. Acquired by InterContinental Hotels in 1978, the hotel changed its name four years later. This year the legendary hotel will celebrate its 80th anniversary. So why not celebrate as well with an Intercontinental short break.

Over the years InterContinental the Barclay, one of the most exclusive and luxurious hotels in New York City, has strived to provide top level of customer service to the city hotel scene, with its elaborate residential design and state-of-the-art facilities. Whether it is a business trip or a leisure travel that takes you to New York, InterContinental the Barclay is an ideal option for your stay, where guest service professionals cater for all the guests' needs. Through the multimillion dollar rejuvenation project the ancient hotel building has been transformed into one of the most elegant, featuring the newest facilities and room design.

Throughout its history InterContinental the Barclay has been visited by a great number of renowned faces. Its close proximity to the United Nations resulted in nearly all major heads of states having visited the hotel, notably Nelson Mandela, Francois Mitterand and President Reagan. The hotel also hosted such world celebrities as Ernst Hemingway, Marlon Brando and Bette Davis.

Dominates in all of the hotel's 600 guest room and 86 suites is the atmosphere of timeless elegance, created through the combination of the Barclay's original character with the modern design and luxury. A characteristic feature of the room redesign is the adaptability for a frequent visitor, with each room able to transform from the comfortable home setting to office with all necessary business facilities. This has been achieved through the introduction of an extendable working area that can be placed anywhere in the guest room to suit best the guest's needs.

Also available in each room are contemporary desks on wheels, a printer and ergonomically designed chairs. On entering the hotel room, the first thing a visitor sees is the parquet hardwood floor, which creates the foyer and adds to the residential atmosphere. The guest rooms feature two styles and color palettes: the first is a combination of pale and deep gold, while the second is inspired by spring colors and combines sky blue and forest green. The wonderful window drapery swags add to the fascinating views of midtown Manhattan. Added to the rooms were silky fabric pillow shams, designed in harmonious combination with rooms' color palettes.

Other improvements to InterContinental the Barclay include the centralized air conditioning and heating systems and updated windows to intensify soundproofing. Each guest room also has a telephone, improved lightning and large mirrors. In addition to its wonderfully furnished guest rooms, the hotel boasts 86 suites, each designed in its individual style, with contemporary art and traditional furnishings. The color scheme for suites includes a variety of hues of gold, blue and red.

Whenever you are planning some social gatherings or InterContinental short breaks, consider the stay at InterContinental the Barclay New York, whose 18 wonderfully designed function rooms are ideal for hosting from 10 to 300 guests for social and business gatherings. The audio-visual department provides a wide range of equipment, and the hotel also features a 24-hour business center, equipped to fulfill all your business requirements.
