The graduate management admission test (GMAT test) is a standardized test, conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) on behalf of the Graduate Management Admission Council of the US. The universities and top business schools in the US, as well as in the other countries, use the results of the GMAT tests in selecting the most prospective students for their MBA and PhD programs.
The GMAT test is also known as the GMAT CAT - the GMAT Computer Adaptive Test. The GMAT test consists of three sections which are separately timed. These are the Analytical Writing Assessment Section, the Quantitative section and the Verbal section. Let us see what each section consists of:
Section 1 - Analytical Writing Assessment Section:
1.a. - Analysis of an Issue
In this section, a candidate should analyze an issue, express his point of view and take a position, supporting his statements with relevant reasons, based on his own either experience, observation or reading. The time limitation is thirty minutes.
1. b. - Analysis of an Argument.
The section should be completed within next thirty minutes and offer a candidate to analyze the logical persuasion of the argument, expressed in the question.
Section 2. Quantitative Section.
The quantitative section includes thirty-seven multiple-choice questions of two types - problem solving and data sufficiency, which should be accomplished within seventy five minutes.
Section 3 - Verbal Section
The section consists of forty one multiple-choice questions for the time limitation of seventy five minutes. The questions are of free types: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Correction and Critical Reasoning. The official GMAT test results are sent by mail a few weeks after a candidate has taken the test, but unofficial scores of the Quantitative Section and Verbal Section are given immediately after the candidate has finished them.
What is important to do before taking the GMAT test? The varieties of training are numerous. First, if there is a possibility, you should attend intensive GMAT classroom programs, which should be available at a university or business school you are going to enter. Moreover, you can prepare for the test yourself using manuals, books and downloadable e-books. The price of the downloadable e-books on the GMAT is not generally high and varies from seven to ninety dollars, which depends on the number of topics and questions covered. The books along with topics and explanations also contain the training tests and keys. You can also find the archive of sample GMAT Quant questions online, which the users, registered in the system (there is no problem in doing that), receive a question by e-mail, free of charge. The questions are provided by detailed solutions, shortcut tips and answers. They are selected from a wide array of topics that typically appear in the GMAT test.
In addition, you may get free GMAT quizzes available online without any registration. They consist of interesting and puzzling questions, which deal primarily with Mathematics.
However, each test is individual, never used before, that is the reason why the more practice and training you have, the better result will be.
