By using an appropriate voltage converter differences in the voltage can be solved. Voltage converters perform the same function as voltage transformers with that difference that they can be used with electric appliances only. Voltage converters can be classified according to the power handled in the circuit and the number of turns in the coils.
Step up voltage converter is used with 220v electric appliances, allowing them to operate from 110v source. Step down voltage converter is for continuous use with 110v appliances with 220v electricity.
There are also Deluxe Voltage converters, which can be used with any appliances. Having multiple sockets on them, Deluxe Voltage Converters are fuse protected and able to show input voltage on the display. Voltage converters with stabilizers, also known as voltage regulators, provide your equipment with clean electrical power to prevent functional disorder and protect appliances from power drops, power surges and spikes. While traveling take advantage of travel voltage converters, which are designed for small electric appliances, like shavers, recharges, cassette tape players, irons, hair dryers or radios. However such converters can not be used for long periods of time.
In order to choose the right voltage converter for your appliances, you should determine the voltage and wattage rating of the appliance. Each appliance contains a label with the description of power requirements. If the watts are not indicated, multiply the volts by the amps to find them. As soon as you determine the Wattage and the Amperage, choose a voltage transformer or a converter, which can provide higher amount of wattage, than the device requires. If you want to connect television to a converter, the VC750 is a perfect option for any Monitor or TV. A converter must be more powerful than it is required by a TV set, since it creates a surge when it is turned on.
Voltage transformers are used to convert single phase 110 or 220 volt. American 220v consists of two phase of 110v. Hence you cannot connect an American 220v dryer or other 220v American products to the voltage transformer.
It is also possible to use several appliances on the same transformer. However precautions should be taken not to exceed its wattage capacity. If one of your appliances consumes 300 watts and the other 150 watts, a voltage converter with 500 watts capacity or higher is required.
A voltage regulator is used in countries with unstable voltage currency. It stabilizes a voltage fluctuation between 70-130v to 110v and a voltage fluctuation between 180-260v to 220v.
All voltage converters are equipped with the American-to-European plug adapters. If you want to connect an appliance with an Australian, Indian or UK plug to a converter, you need to purchase a PB26 adapter plug.
220-240 volt electricity is generated at 50Hz. alternating current, while 110-120 volt electricity is generated at 60Hz. This may cause some 60Hz. appliances to operate slower on 50Hz. electricity. It doesn't concern battery charges, computers, printers, tape and CD players.
