An ideal destination for those looking for sporting activities, rest, and relaxation, the Homestead is a luxury resort nestled in the scenic mountains of Virginia, and famous for its championship golf and a relaxing spa. Established in 1766, it offers its guests an inimitable retreat, a wonderful escape amidst the stunning beauty of the Allegheny Mountains of Virginia, and an array of opportunities to rest your body and spirit.
However, two features that make the resort a premier vacation destination in Virginia are its full-service luxurious spa and three challenging golf courses. The latter enjoy an extreme popularity, offering distinct challenges and layouts for all skill levels. The oldest of the three courses is the Old Course, built originally in 1892 as part of a six-hole layout, and expanded to 18 holes some two decades later. The course has been recently redesigned to include a putting green and a driving range. The Cascades Course has a mountain layout, while the Lower Cascades Course features challenging bunker placements and wide-open fairways. Those eager to improve their golf skills are welcome to the Golf Advantage School at the Homestead, offering both individual and group instruction.
Designed in 1892, the Spa at the Homestead is located in the four-story Historic Landmark building that has been reconstructed to its original Victorian-style appearance. Available are a variety of treatments, such as Mountain Laurel Soak, Swedish Bath, and Mineral Bath, in addition to a number of face and body treatments. Guests can also take advantage of a full-service salon, featuring skin care therapies, manicures, pedicures, and hairstyling. Nearby are indoor and outdoor pools with hot spring mineral water, ideal for relaxation.
Situated five miles from the resort is one of the greatest attractions of the area, the Jefferson Pools, developed in the 1750s and named after Thomas Jefferson in 1818. The pool is housed in the wooden building, recognized as the America's oldest spa structure. Visitors can enjoy a massage in one of the private treatment rooms and relax in the warm spring waters rich in minerals.
Should you decide to take children on a vacation, Homestead family resort offers family vacation packages that include accommodations, dining, and the KidsClub program of exciting activities for children aged 3-12. Some of the activities include tennis, fishing, biking, hiking, horseback riding, skiing, snow tubing, ice skating, falconry demonstrations, and art and science projects. Children are also allowed to get some treatments at the spa, including a Teen Facial, a Kids Massage, and more. Winter rates for the family vacation package start from $178 per person, while in summer, you'll have to pay $216 and more.
The Homestead Resort is an all-the-year-round destination with a number of seasonal activities. Its close proximity to Virginia's Allegheny Mountains makes possible here a range of great outdoor adventures and sports, like mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, and more. Visitors are also offered to try their hand at one of the premier golf courses and tennis courts, as well as fly fishing and shooting.
