On July 4, the American colonies declared their independence from Britain. America is celebrating it's 230th birthday in 2006. The first celebration took place on the 4th of July 1777. Many families celebrate the Fourth of July by having picnics and, at night, watching fireworks. Although fireworks have been banned in most places, most towns and cities usually have big firework displays for all to see and enjoy.
