India's diversity of religions, languages, and cultures is unparalleled. This complex nation's intricate ethnic mosaic is reflected nowhere as dramatically as in its art, architecture, music, and dance. A successfuly selected Hindi program may take you to India, where you could examine the living traditions of an ancient civilization.
Such a program bases, for instance, in Jaipur, a city of palaces, forts, and bazaars, and capital of the desert state of Rajasthan. From here, field excursions to rural arts communities provide opportunities for you to interact with craftspeople involved in traditional art forms such as puppet making, block printing, batik, silk screening, blue pottery, painting, sculpting, and marble cutting. Intensive Hindi program instruction and interdisciplinary seminars complete your study of art and serve as a window for viewing India's rich and varied culture.
Another appropriate place for immersing in language is Alberta Hindi Parishad's. This Hindi language school aims to preserve and promote Hindi language, to initiate and engage in activities and Hindi program meant to enhance and popularize the use of Hindi language. Therefore they also provide forum for - Literary programs, Drama & stage events, Public speaking sessions in Hindi, organize and run the Hindi language classes, establish Library of Hindi books and Reading room facility, provide Centre for the Alberta Hindi Parishad Hindi program and activities. Their objectives are to join hands with other organizations engaged in similar activities of raising the status of Hindi Language as an important international language.
Hindi Vidyaalaya was started in 1987 at the University of Alberta with the help of Professor Emiritus Dr. Ambikeshwar Sharma. After lengthy deliberations, Alberta Hindi Parishad chose the books prepared by NCERT - Baal Bharti, which are used in the Central school system throughout India, as the basic curriculum to structure the classes. This has been enriched time to time with supplementary material to make the classroom experience valuable and relevant, the process still continues. Experienced teachers provide basic training and guidance to the volunteer teachers.
Hindi Vidyaalaya conducts four classes, Level 1 to 4, for children of 5 to 15 years old. An introductory class for adults, where basic reading, writing and speaking is taught, followed by a Conversation class, where emphasis is on Hindi speaking, and a class on Grammar.
Each student is expected to respect the school property, the teachers, the volunteers and their fellow students; hand in their homework in time and gather in the next class for evaluation; devote at least 15 minutes each day to reviewing the lesson learned in class; participate in class activities and Hindi program, organized by Hindi Parishad.
Students participate in field trips, an annual picnic, cultural programs - Holi Program, Independence Day Program, Kavi Sammelan and Antakshari.
Students and members are encouraged to submit articles, poems, and short stories for the annual publication MEDHAVINI and newsletter KRITI.
