"Oh...err...I have no words!" - It is the common answer for the question "what were your Havana holidays like?", because it is impossible to describe in our usual words such exotic city and brilliant-it-is-understatement impressions of holidays in Havana. Even sightseeing in this city does not tire at all, because every building, every stone, all has something romantic here.
Like many cities of New World (by the way, Havana is considered as one of the oldest ones), Havana can be divided into two zones: Old Havana and Contemporary Havana. The old part of the city is the area of colonial buildings, and the ?????? declare it the part of the world cultural heredity. Here are just some places that can attract you in Old Havana.
400-years-old Plaza de Armas is surrounded by many sights: The House of Capitan-Generals; the colonial castle Castillo de la Real Fuerza (XVI century) with the legendary La Giraldilla - the symbol of both Havana and Cuban rum; the oldest private residences. The Museum of the city - the whole history of Havana is founded here. Cathedral Square Plaza de la Catedral and the cathedral of Havana Catedral de San Cristobal (1788).
Plaza de San Francisco. As the history says, the monastery and the church was built here on the ruins of franciscan monastery. Then the square was founded in 1628 for some reasons: the street, where the monastery was placed needed a continuation; it was high time to make a little square in order to improve the water supple for the fleet; the place for unloading of ships were not superfluous. The religion functions of monastery ended in 1841 and nowadays it is in processs of reustaration.
Castillo Del Morro (1589-1630) was built as the defense of the harbor. Today there is the Sea Museum. Visit, you will not regret. Moreover, you cannot tell about your Havana holidays if you were not staying near the 300-years-old cannons and looking into the distance like a real pirate. The contemporary part of the city can offer you the following.
Embankment Malecon - it stretches for 7km, so there is enough space for all, who wants to have a rest, inhabitants and guests of the capital. The name of Plaza de Revolucion speaks for itself; the square also has such "neighbors" as the monument Hose Marti, the former President palace - now the Museum of the Revolution.
Nevertheless, hanging about in the city all the time at least tiresomely and then...The most interesting places near Mexico are Botanical gardens, the House of Hemingway and the seaport Marina Hemingway, you should know it.Cuba has 300 natural beaches and one of them is very close to Havana - 28km to the east - Santa-Maria-Del-Mar, so Havana holidays is always the exciting combination of sights of the capital with the full program beach holiday (swimming, diving, sunbathing...it does not need explanation).
