Guira is just so....amazing

Added: 05/09/2006

People have all kinds of reasons to go to the Caribbean, the main among which is the unique combination of mild sunny weather, highly developed tourist infrastructure and unspoiled scenery landscapes. Cuba has a lot to be seen, beginning with historical monuments and finishing with magnificent sunsets of the Caribbean. The small city of Guira is one such location that will leave searching for words and thinking of a way to come back as soon as possible for another visit.

Guira is a fascinating village, situated just a few kilometers inland and still contains the original houses. A lovely walk through unspoiled natural vegetation of Guira village will helps you appreciate its natural viewing point, which takes in the glorious bird life and beaches. Thin bands of orange-flavored light play over the occupants. The breeze softly drifts through open windows as the couple ambles out to the infinity pool. They slip into the crisp blue water and float over to the edge to take in a view of endless ocean dotted with green islands. The most pressing decision they face is whether to have mimosas now or wait to open a bottle of wine for lunch - or will it be both?

Guira was founded about a hundred years ago, and there are still some versions of why it was named so. The first supposition among main two is - the village is named after the bird Guira, typical of this place only. The small grey bird Guira sings marvelously, entertaining and admiring not only tourists, but locals, too. The Guira bird is so unique that even Institute for Coastal Research is set up to protect the rare Ibis, as well as the other bird and animal life and the environment. Visitors are welcome to come here and learn about the fantastic bird life in the Guira village.

The second version is that Guira is the motherland of the same named instrument, looked like a wash -desk and producing the same sound. Guira is the oldest national folk tools used in all kinds of festive musical performances, now preserved in the Guira village as well.  So you see, to take a glimpse of these two vanishing things is already a reason to visit Guira during your Cuba holidays.

If you need some more here they are!

First of all, the Guira Village offers the greatest views ever seen in the world - useless to describe them as you will still won't believe it, you must experience it by your own. The best way to explore it is to hire a horse, the great amount of which is at your service and travel the area from the saddle. Ride- lessons are practically free.

Guira beaches are great and the amount of fish you get is unbelievable, you even see the legend "4ft" barracuda there. This is by far the best place for us to go for snorkeling in Cuba, the amount of different fish you get to see! A child- friendly services offer you take the baby with you. Wading into the warm water and peeking under the surface for the first time, with the parents by the side and a mask as the window on the reef, the color and excitement of the tropical sea come alive. Tiny fish swim in formation almost within touching distance while, down below, angels and butterflies flit above fairy-tale castles of coral - isn't it beautiful?

Parador La Silla, lying on the 16km causeway that connects the islands of Coco, Guillermo and Romano and is also a perfect place for snorkeling. Besides, this is the ideal spot to watch the spectacular annual migration of pink flamingos to breed from about April to November.

Other than that, it's just an amazing country with super friendly people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. You will love Guira it is just so....amazing.
