The Green Man Festival is held annually at the end of April or the beginning of May in Clun, Shropshire. It was started as a two day event; however, the musical entailment at the festival was extended to three days because of the increased number of activities. The latter includes music, literature, and film. The bands performing at the festival were The Earlies, Bonny Prince Billy, Its Jo and Danny, Matt, Sweeney, Adem, and others. Alongside the huge variety of live music, The Green Man Festival offered you many conveniences. There are beds in the hall that you can rent and a camping space. There are stall with organic foods during the festival. Next year, the organizers of this event plan to organize transportation.
The Green Man Festival in 2005 was a great success with all of the people who came to see it. The three day event was filled with events, ranging from live music to art exhibitions. On Sunday, you could see market stalls, street, entertainers, Morris dancing, Mummer's play, and live music from Loosehounds. The second portion of the concert started at 7:30 p.m. and featured the highlight of the Green Man Festival; The Llanfair Caereinion Male Voice Choir. The tickets are eight dollars and children under twelve are free. On Monday, the Green Man Festival is joined by Maypole, Morris Dancers, May Queen, Medieval Knights, Hippie Havens, Foot Soldiers and Ladies, entering Clun. According to the ancient tradition, the Green Men should gain the victory over 'the Sprit of Winter', who is named Frostie to clear a path for summer in the Clun Valley. Afterwards, there was May Fair with stalls, crafts, music, and other activities in Clun Castle. Visitors had a chance to participate in squire training, archery, medieval dancing, and music. There were a number of craft demonstrations, including soap making, smith work, and clog making, spinning, felting, and weaving. Other events during the festival included an art exhibit called "Jesus Laughing and Loving" that was first displayed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival at St. George's Church. It had a mixed choir that sang harmony songs from the traditions of communities worldwide. The tickets are three dollars for adults and children are usually free. The Green Man Festival in 2005 had surpassed all the previous celebrations of this event because it brought in over 4,000 people. In 2004, the number of people at the festival totaled 2,000. The performances of the entertainers exceeded the fans wildest dreams and expectations. The main stage played host to Joanna Newsom and Bonnie Prince Billy with featured performances from global superstars, like Half Cousin, Aberfeldy, and Absentee. The Green Man Festival was always different from other events of its kind because of its unpredictable list of attractions.
In its third year, the festival managed to gain the reputation of the leading events of the hippie movement. This success was achieved due to the constant support of the festival's organizer's Jo Bartlett and Danny Hagen. They are known as Jo and Danny. The Green Man Festival in 2006 is scheduled for April; 30th and it is awaited for by many eager fans.
