The American Agricultural Economics Association is a non-profit professional agricultural association and organization whose members are interested in agricultural economics - the application of economic tools for the analysis of issues in the areas of food, agriculture, natural resources and rural communities. Throughout its history, the organization has strived to keep its members informed on the latest agricultural economies policy issues and research developments.

The Agricultural Association offers a forum for professional growth and information exchange, which in turn, provides extensive educational opportunities to assist in skills development and broaden the range of competencies. Recognized by the organization are also individuals and groups providing good value to local, national and international economies. The AAEA membership also ensures credentialing and forum for display and presentation of professional achievement through a number of publications, like the online magazine Choices, the Review of Agricultural Economics and the American Journal of Agricultural Economics.

Today as ever, the mission of this Agricultural Association is to enhance knowledge and skills of economists who contribute to solving problems related to resources, food, agriculture and economic development.

The AAEA Foundation was established in 1985 with the aim of funding professional development opportunities and innovative programs in the areas of resources, agriculture, food, environment and allied fields. It was instrumental in the efforts of the American Agricultural Association's graduate student members to create professional development activities designed for the graduate level of expertise. Supported by the Foundation are also undergraduate student activities, including an academic bowl competition, a paper competition and the AAEA Annual Meeting, as well as student exchange between Australia and the United States.

In addition, the Foundation funds professional development conferences, workshops and career development programs for new academic professionals. The AAEA current goals and objectives can be outlined as following:

- To mobilize resources and enhance the American Agricultural Association's capacity to fulfill its vision in providing information to improve quality of the public discourse in the areas of agriculture, natural resources, the food system and environment;
- Stimulating its members' professional development;
- Enlarging the membership community; deepening and widening the involvement of the Association with public service, industry and the international community;
- And ensuring participation in a wide range of AAEA activities by groups and individuals with limited resources.

Since its establishment, the AAEA Foundation has provided funding for activities, unavailable through other sources. It also appreciates contributions from organizations and individuals committed to promoting innovative programs and professional development opportunities for those practicing in the areas of food, agriculture, environment, resources and allied fields.
