GMC Buick is a large department of General Motors Corporation concern. It is a producer of spacious, typical American motor cars and it is considered as a pioneer in the sphere of producing automatic gearboxes. In the USA, models of GMC Buick are attributed to a higher class. At present, it has lost its previous positions on the market; however, as all other brands of automobiles, which program of output was oriented on evidently conservative Americans.
Why did it happen? In the beginning of 70-th the population of the United States of America was stirred by messages, telling about an awful smog, covering Los Angeles. The photograph of the traffic controller in a respirator roamed from newspaper to newspaper all over the world.
The struggle for purity of the environment began. The following step was the advent of oil crisis. So then, in the foreground it was not the individualism of model, but its operating costs.
When country has a hard time, it is just improperly to drive an uneconomic car, and because of this, full-size automobiles with engineers of large volume fell into customer's disgrace very quickly. As you can guess, the Buick's model line was founded exactly on them.
By this moment image of GMC Buick was rather conservative. It suited the wealthiest representatives of the middle class; businesspersons, doctors and advocates, who were well paid but not the most popular, drove the Buick. In general, they were those, who can afford to buy a Cadillac but were too modest for such car.
Maybe the last noticeable Buick car was the model Riviera of 1973 year of output. The appearance of its back part has something similar with classical Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, produced in 1963. The subsequent politics of General Motors Corporation concluded maximal unification of models of its departments. The star of Buick was setting. In 1991 the former top of the model line - the Buick Roadmaster was no more than Chevrolet Caprice Classic with body, changed a little bit.
Nowadays all GMC Buick models became rather similar both in design and in construction. They are distinguished by spacious body with 5 or 6 seats of sedan type (its height is about 5,0-5,25meters) and arranging of front drive gear with power assemblies, situated transversally. Only 6-cylinder V-shaped engineers (including ones with volumetric supercharger) and automatic hydro mechanical 4-stepped gearboxes are used. The bodies of Buicks can be ascribed of carrying type and independent suspension bracket of back wheels is employed.
By the European standards, the level of GMC Buick equipment is rather high when prices are perceptibly lower than the ones of the automobiles of the same class, belonging to other companies. However, Buick cars have already not supplied in Europe: they are too large for European "family" sedans.
But all is not bad as it seems. To a universally pleasure, General Motors Corporation is not only the Buick (just remember: mini-van GMC Safari, SUVs Yukon and Yukon XL, Minibus Savana SL T, famous GMC pickups) and your travel car is not only the GMC, isn't it?
