Have you ever dreamed to see a ghost while spending a night in a gloomy ancient castle with its mysterious history and strange inhabitants? Are you a fan of gothic literature or probably a passionate fan all ancient stuff? Then all you got to do is to save some money and choose the castle you like. Out there they may not promise you to show you a family ghost but with a bit of history you will get in touch for sure.

Well honestly speaking some of the castles aren't so old - some of them were rebuilt on the place of ruins to be an accommodation for travelers. Another type are castle-like hotels which in fact have nothing common with the old ones but the look. You will have towers, rough stone covered walls and even defensive installations like some kind of turrets or anything else.

In fact "castle accommodation" means a rather wide range of accommodation types, not castles only. "Castles" are also farmhouses, maisons, castle-like hotels and etc.

All the castles by the obvious reasons are situated in rural areas though some of them aren't too far from the cities and airports. Of course they all are situated in the picturesque landscape of hills, mountains, lakes and rivers, where you could fully enjoy your holidays.

There are some variants of castle accommodation. At first it's a hotel accommodation. You come, check in, stay and then check out. Everything is like it's supposed to be in a hotel: reception desk, room service, a mini bar and a satellite TV and etc. The only difference is the style of the interiors.

Another type of castle accommodation is B&B accommodation. Here the part of a family house is played by a modest Victorian mansion or a medieval knight residence. You'll be probably offered to choose between from two meals - breakfast or dinner.

And there is one more type of castle stay - self-catering accommodation which is probably the most attractive for the ancient stuff lovers or just for impressive travelers. You get the whole place or a considerable part of it in you disposal. You don't stay at a castle - you live in it. It's a good variant for arranging large parties, celebrating holidays with the all the members of your large family, hosting the crews of golf-players. Usually you rent a place for a week at least, and pay not per day but per week. All these self-catering castles and maisons sleep from 4 to 20 guests. The accommodation includes a few twin, double and sometimes single rooms. Plus the place disposes with a kitchen, living-room and a large dining-room.

Some tourist agencies even offer castles tours which means that you are travelling for about a week across some historical area a sleep every night in a new castle. Switching places you probably get  more impressions than staying at the same one all the time.
