Originally, the Galaxyland in Edmonton was known as the Fantasyland, but as the name was used for the theme lands in the Disneyland, the mall owners changed the name of the park. The park's theme of space and its adventures is masterfully realized through amusement rides, cosmic attractions and multimedia events. The Mindbender, forcing the passengers with gravity into their seats as they rush along, is the world's largest indoor triple loop rollercoaster. However, the Mindbender is only one of twenty five other thrilling rides and loveable attractions in the Galaxyland.
The rides at the Galaxyland Theme Park are subdivided into beginner, intermediate and advanced rides. Some rides for beginners include the Motorjump with small bikes and ATV's, which move in a circular forward motion, the Carousel with traditional merry-go-round horses and the Balloon Ride that is the Ferris wheel with cars, skillfully shaped like balloons.
The intermediate rides at the Galaxyland Theme Park are suitable for each family member. The best one is the Cosmic Spinner, which takes adventurers on an extraordinary whirling orbit. The riders sit in one of four individually spinning UFO's and experience numerous thrills and jolts of an adventurous space voyage. A brilliant entertaining experience is guaranteed in the TurboRide Theater, which is fully equipped with motion seats, DST sound and a three-storied screen. The Autosled is a small roller coaster with a series of sharp turns and high speeds for the whole family's fun and thrill. The Rockin' Rocket is a space-themed rocket to experience a unique combination of rocking and whirling motions on this ride.
The advanced rides at the Galaxyland Theme Park are for the most daring. The Space Shot launches passengers nearly one hundred and twenty feet skyward, then thrusts them back to the earth. The Sonic Storm propels the riders forward and backward in a circular bouncing motion. The Galaxy Twister is a fast speed thirty six-seated ride that moves and twists forward and backward with sharp drops and flipping motions.
There is also the Haunted House and the Rock 'n' Wall, a rock-climbing wall, differently leveled for beginners, intermediates and advancers. Limitless games are organized in the games area of the park.
The Galaxyland Theme Park has a specially designed Galaxy Kids Playpark for little kids and even toddlers, where they can enjoy four floors of an interactive space-themed play area. The large children's play area also features slides, caves and a ball crawl.
Multimedia dance parties, accompanied with the hottest music, giant video screens and unlimited rides, are held throughout the school year and have an enormous success among energetic teens. The Rock 'n' Ride Dance Party has been held at the Galaxyland Theme Park for more than fifteen years and is still the greatest party. Recently, the West Edmonton Mall and 91.7 The Bounce have announced the contest for a new party's name. Each of ten finalists will be invited to the party for free, and the winner will be awarded by a tow hundred and fifty dollar WEM Gift Card and a Three-Month Family Super Fun Attractions Pass and a free admission for himself and one friend to all nine 2006 - 2007 Rock 'n' Ride events.
