Welcome to Irish schools abroad

Added: 11/24/2005

Gaelic was in danger of being exterminated in many of the traditional Gaelic speaking areas, but now a Gaelic renaissance has slowed this trend if not yet reversed it. Many people of Irish descent choose to study Irish to preserve their heritage. Irish schools abroad and Irish language software ressources do also aim at keeping Irish traditions.

Gaelic is the English word for any of the three languages which form one half of the Celtic language family group. These three Gaelic languages are Irish Gaelic or Gaeilge, Manx Gaelic or Gailck, Scottish Gaelic or Gàidhlig.

These three languages are spoken in Ireland, Man and Scotland. The Gaels are the peoples who speak these languages nowadays or did so in the past. Gaelic was in danger of being exterminated in many of the traditional Gaelic speaking areas, but now a gaelic renaissance has slowed this trend if not yet reversed it.

Many people of Irish descent choose to study Irish to preserve their heritage. Irish schools abroad have the same aim. In fact, people often want to learn the language at Irish schools abroad or in other ways simply because it is beautiful and fascinating.

Regardless of whether your reason for learning Irish Gaelic is school, travel, business, or just because it's fun, you'll find something useful if you choose Irish schools abroad for studying it. You can also choose the destination you like, even if some of them could seem unusual as the US or Australia, for instance. Here you can get to know about these places.

Sean Fallon Irish language school's lessons are given every Thursday by Comhaltas Ceolroiri Eireann which meets at the White Heather Club in Woodward, the US. In addition to teaching Irish language, Comhaltas also offers lessons in fiddle, whistle, flute, concertina, uilean pipes, harp, and set dancing.
You can contact Sea Fallon or visit its Web site.

The next American Irish language school is Gaelic League & Irish American Club, that generally starts classes in mid-October and goes through the end of May. The students are all adults and vary widely in their level of knowledge of the language. They have a lot of fun in the course of their studies.

Now let's have a look at Australia with its Irish schools abroad.   Creag "Fintan" Batty offers  classes to people in and around the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Australia. The beginner's course is based on Gaeile agus Failte by Annette Byrne. If you reside elsewhere in Australia or overseas, they will assist in every  way possible to help you get started in your endeavors to learn Irish. Bain triail as! (Have a go!)

At most Irish schools abroad only non-credit classes are available.
Blue Mountains Irish Group also offers classes to people in and around the Blue Mountains in New South Wales.

Irish Australian Club of Wollongong is a small class that meets each week to further their love of the language. They do their very best with the limited resources they have and enjoy their weekly lessons.
There is a nominal charge to cover the room rental and to pay for tea or coffee.

Regular practice is necessary to learn to speak Irish well. That's one reason why good Irish software programs can be a useful alternative on Irish language learning. It's easier than ever to learn Irish and to begin to speak Irish with the language resources and Irish language software from, for instance, Transparent Language. With Irish Now!, Before You Know It, and other language learning products, you will speak Irish, learn Irish vocabulary, conjugate Irish verbs, understand Irish grammar, and master Irish pronunciation quickly.

So, goodf luck with your Irish language learning at Irish schools abroad or in your own way!
