What is the first city name that pops into your mind when talking about Mexico? Acapulco! It is the first famous beach resort of Mexico, a once favourite place to visit by the rich and famous, now one of the most popular tourist destinations. You will find here an incredible number of attractions and activities to enjoy. Whether you've arrived for a short brake, or stay here for longer you'll hardly get bored. Everywhere you go there is something interesting to see and to do.
We'll start our overview from the activities one can enjoy at the beach. There's quite a number of beaches in Acapulco and every one of them offers something different. Located in the historical section of Acapulco, Caleta Beach may not be the prettiest of the city's beaches, but swimming here is much safer and easier than on most other local beaches as the waves are usually calm. That's what makes it so attractive for the families with kids whereas young people traveling by themselves would prefer Icacos Beach, which is usually quite crowded. Here you can take a ride in the hot air balloon, go parasailing, try the skycoaster and rent waverunners. During the high seasons this part of Acapulco bay will be packed with cruising around boats and yachts. Puerto Marques Beach is an ideal beach for a lazy, relaxed tourist. It is the most popular beach among the local families who know that its waters are safe and calm most of the time. Pie de la Cuesta is located a little further away from the rest of the beaches and it has got a lagoon for water-skiing. The waves can be huge here at times, so swimming is not generally recommended. Le Bonfil is famous for its waves and is a favourite beach of surfers.
Acapulco is one of the most desired destinations for divers. It has so many extraordinary places to dive and explore such as sunken ships, Sea Mountains, walls, Roqueta Island (for shallow and calm dives), caves and rock formations and many more. Depending on season you can observe coral formations, barnacles, gorgonians, sea fans and sea stars, trumpet fishes, jacks, sea horses and even turtles.
Acapulco is known as the city that never sleeps. At night the music is pumping out of every establishment along the main street and the city is full of flashing lights and partying people. Entertainments include wild discos, which are usually open until early morning, piano bars, live shows and concerts, and occasional spontaneous dancing on top of the bar.
Unfortunately because of Acapulco's party-all-night reputation many of its attractions are left without attention. But if you plan your stay in advance you'll be able to experience lots of fun activities. A spectacular show of the legendary Acapulco cliff divers has been one of the main attractions for years. Watching them dive from a daring cliff of La Quedabra will be the experience you'll never forget. Touring the Fort of San Diego with some very interesting exhibits would be an excellent pastime for a family. Called the Acapulco International Center, the Convention Center has witnessed many famous events, concerts, seminars, fairs and expositions. This is the home of Acapulco Symphonic Orchestra and Acapulco Music Festival. It has an amazing fountain at the entrance and its large garden boasts a variety of tropical plants and palms. The main public plaza in city is Zocalo, which is surrounded by shops and charming restaurants. The bungee jump on The Costera is a fascinating way to pass the time too.
Water parks and Aca Zoo for children, high-speed boat ride down the Papagayo River and Bullfight Arena for adults, all the modern equipped beaches, and historical churches and cathedrals for everybody - this is Acapulco - a marvelous place, which never runs out of ideas to entertain its guests.
