Britain is a country of well preserved traditions. This is the country where Margaret Thatcher was given the rank of an Honorable Man just so she could join the "Reform-Club" without breaking an old custom. So it does not sound surprising that such a simple thing as drinking tea also has to be done according to certain rules.
