Between 1988 and 1991, Eskimo Pie introduced an aspartame sweetened, chocolate covered, frozen dairy dessert bar called the Eskimo Pie No Sugar Added Reduced Fat Ice Cream Bar. Eskimo pie ice cream is as much an American tradition as baseball or apple pie. The Eskimo Pie ice cream bar has been a staple of the segment ever since.

By the end of the 19th century, ice cream was firmly entrenched in American society and with its popularity came many new inventions. One of the first inventions to come along was the ice cream cone. By the 1920's, there was the banana split; ice cream cakes; the ice cream sandwich and the first chocolate-covered ice cream bar - Eskimo Pie.
