Choosing flights to India that are convenient for passengers is becoming easier and easier. India main cities operate airports that serve domestic flights as well as international ones. Besides, during peak seasons air companies provide additional flights to India.
For example, Chennai has one of the four major international airports of India. Many major international airlines have regular direct flights to Chennai. Domestic airlines operate daily flights to all major cities of the country from the domestic terminal. Both air terminals are located at Meenambakkom. The city has representation of almost all airlines of the world.
Not only Chennai has such air connection with the rest of India and cities outside the country. Delhi is a major International Gateway to India. It has an extensive network of International as well as domestic flights. All the major airlines in the world fly through Delhi, and it is easily accessible from anywhere in the world. Domestic air links cover Delhi from all the major cities in the country.
The same may be said about Mumbai. The city is well connected by air with the rest of India as well as the world. All the major airlines from Europe, the Far East and the Middle East fly to Mumbai. The two airports of Mumbai are among the busiest airports, if not the most, of India. The offices of most of the international and domestic airlines are situated around Nariman Point in South Mumbai. Prepaid taxis are available from the airports into town.International Airport- Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Sahar, which is about 30 km north of the city center at Nariman Point & Churchgate. The Domestic Airport at Santa Cruz is just 4 km away from Sahar airport. It has two terminals. Terminal 1A serves Indian Airlines & Alliance Air. Terminal 1B caters to Jet Airways & Sahara India.
Not only flights to India vary, flights from India do either. Air India has introduced flights to Birmingham and Toronto from Amritsar. The Delhi-Frankfurt-Los Angeles flight was inaugurated in March this year providing direct connectivity to the West coast of USA. Air India has launched direct flights to London from Kolkata, effective June 18, 2005. The flights are operated on the Delhi-Dhaka-Kolkata-London sector on a thrice weekly basis - Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
As you see flights to India and from the country are not a problem nowadays. Air fares to India also vary and some categories of people may find not so high ones. For example, senior citizens traveling from India to USA, Canada , London , Birmingham, Paris and Frankfurt can now avail of special discounted fares for outbound travel period from September, 16, 2005 until March, 31, 2006. However, on these concessional fares travel is not permitted ex India during January and into India during December and July. Males aged 65 and above and females aged 63 and above will be eligible for these fares.
Passengers holding student visa can avail of special discounted airfares to India.
There are also easy fares. If you wish to buy easy fare, you should know in advance all the peculiarities about this fare. For example, you would be required to purchase confirmed tickets only. In case of flight disruption / cancellation of flights tickets will not be endorsed to any other carrier. Issuance of 'Open' dated and 'Waitlist' tickets is not permitted. Ticket valid for one year from the date of issue. No cancellation charges will be applicable, if you cancel the booking due to flight re-schedule for one hour or more. However, cancellation charges will be applicable if you cancel booking due to flight re-schedule within one hour of original flight departure. You not be permitted to travel on a non-specific flight against the Specific Flight Fare. If the Passenger of a non-specific flight wishes to travel on the specific-flight, difference in fare will be refunded. This fare is not combinable with any other fare. This summer until the period until August, 7 Air India decided to give relief to passengers effecting change in their travel plans following torrential rains in Mumbai. The fee in the range of US $125-150 charged for cancellation or rebooking for travel from India to the USA, UK and Europe was waived. A spokesman of Air India said that the relief was granted as a goodwill gesture considering that the rains had impacted business and family life of several people.
