First of all, top class UK rail travel is more convenient, as the carriages have larger seats, more space both for you and your baggage. The decor and ambience is very pleasant - frequently leaving one disappointed that the train has arrived. Besides, seat reservations are even less likely to be needed, as it is seldom crowded. Not speaking about extras, including free tea and coffee but it is only on some routes as well even offer free packed lunch and newspapers. Generally it is a very good and comparable to airline 'first class'. If you have a UK rail travel on commuter routes radiating from the big cities, accommodation is an absolute must , at least for many well ? doing rail companies. But mind that there are no local bargains during the week and many fares must be purchased in advance and others have day and time restrictions. Naturally, it is not cheap, but not too expensive.
Regardless the class, due to the sophisticated system of UK national rail services, it is very hard to get best fare as they usually require advance purchase and reservation and are very restricted and therefore difficult to get for the overseas visitor. These advance purchase/restricted fares are no good if you are planning a trip immediately following arrival by air. They afford no flexibility or delay, so it must be a great luck to use such tickets with constant train delays. But do not worry that if having missed the train your UK rail travel will be over. It should be noted that British trains are very different from American trains or European TGV style trains where a reservation and preplanning is necessary. UK rail travel is ?up and go? one as t frequency is the key and the big difference making touring so easy. Local UK rail travel fares tend to be expensive and are mostly designed for the corporate traveller. If you have no wish to spend excess money sums on the UK rail travel (and you hardly do), you can still get to the destination no worse than on the first class. UK Rail travel passes are better to be bought before you arrive in the country as are only available to those who do not live in Britain and can be used for 1 month (single-zone passes can be bought for a shorter time).
But if you are completing only one journey a ?point- to ?point? ticket will be the very thing to make a UK rail travel pleasant and quick. These tickets offer reductions on round trips in both classes at all times and are completely unrestricted besides giving the traveler opportunity to move on any train, at any time. Stopovers are unrestricted and it is a sin not to use them to stay for a few hours or overnight if you like and plunge into the country`s culture.
But please mind! It is usually required to buy this ticket before you start your UK rail travel. If not - you are to pay a fine or to buy a more expensive ticket.
And remember that it is better to have a valid rail ticket that is valid for more than one day -you can use this to visit an attraction within that same one month period of return travel validity.
