Finland attractions - make your holidays unforgettable

Added: 08/24/2005

Situated in the very North of Europe, Finland, the country that consists of the mainland and 30,000 islands, is among the popular European tourist destinations. Finland attractions include thousands of lakes, excellent fishing tours (Finns enjoy fishing, and it is actually some kind of a national sport here), tours to Lapland, the motherland of Santa Claus, and a great number of beautiful mountain skiing resorts. And of course, the major attraction of this country is its unique nature, magnificent and untouched. Over two thirds of Finland are covered with deep forests.

Large national parks have preserved the unique dark conifers of the ancient Europe. Many rocks, formed after melting and retreat of glaciers of the last glacial epoch, add very much to the unique and original appearance of local nature.  Traveling to Finland is a great chance to return to the glacial epoch visiting and exploring Hirvas, the deepest rocky tunnels, so called Devil's Tracks, on the east riverside of Kemijoki (21 km of Rovaniemi).  Lakes in Finland are also spectacular and are worth seeing as well.

When in Finland, visit the arctic zoo Ranua, the northernmost zoo of the world situated in 80 km from Rovaniemi.  You will see animals and birds that inhabit the polar regions of the world in their natural surroundings.  The three kilometers route will take you along the open air cages and the bridge built above them.  Polar bears, reindeer and unique birds of prey, natural only to these areas, live in Ranua zoo, which has always been among the popular Finland attractions.

The tour to Snowland and Snowy Palace will bring you into the country built of snow.  Here you can risk to stay in the snowy hotel and spend the night in the unheated room made of snow and ice.  Among the other Finland attractions there is also an old marine castle called Suomenlina built in 1748.  You can also go to Seurassari island to visit the national park and the open air museum situated there.

If you are interested history and appreciate architecture there are a lot of places in Finland that deserve your special attention.  They are Orthodox and Catholic Churches in Kotka (the city is not large and is often missed by tourists), and Lutheran Cathedral in Lappenranta.  In the center of Helsinki there is Alexander the 2nd Memorial, Lutheran Cathedral and the building of the University Library.  In Finland there are over 300 museums, which are also worth visiting. Among them are the National Museum of Finland, the Municipal Museum, the Archeological Museum in Pori and many others.  And if you want to just sit in a cafe and drink coffee, Finland is the best place for it.  Finland is a country that drinks more coffee than any other country in the world, and there are cafes nearly at every corner of every street.

Most Finnish cities are indisputable Finland attractions since they are very peculiar in style, have interesting architecture, history and culture.  Visit Finland - you will never be bored during your stay in this beautiful country.
