Exotic Vacation - Viking EgyptMuch has been written about Egypt, the better way to understand the country is to experience it.
Egypt is filled to the brim with wonders - ancient and modern. Everywhere you turn, the eye is dazzled and your heart captured. No matter how often you visit, there is always something new to see and discover. One can drive down the same street a hundred times and every time you see it with a new eye. As you drive through some of the busiest streets of Cairo towards Giza, you are surrounded on all sides by honking, bumper-to-bumper traffic, and as you drive past the numerous fast-food restaurants like McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken, you may even wonder whether you really are in Egypt. Then suddenly - without warning, you see the Pyramids, right before your eyes - and you not only know where you are, you feel it too. It is the contrast between the old and new, and the ease with which Egyptians breach the gap. Their ability to be whatever pleases you, to speak the language you understand, to make you feel completely at home is the greatest wonder off all.
Egypt is a never-ending source of places to go, people to see, and things to do. From desert - to mountain - to sea, the Nile flows gently through, bringing with it... unforgettable memories to be experienced. Just start you on your adventure.
Lots of tours are offered for a viking tourist like you. Many of them conducted on a private basis, so you are free to make it your own and do it your way. As a rule, tours include the services of an English-speaking Egyptologist/guide (other languages available on request), entrance fees, pick-up and drop-off at your hotel, and transportation in air conditionned car/bus. Tipping is at your discretion.
The most famous and popular Viking tour is visit to Alexandria. Alexandria is a harmonious blend of east and west, ancient and modern, where the sands of the desert converge with the sea of the Mediterranean. DAY 1: CAIRO - ALEXANDRIA Drive by private a/c micro-bus (225 kms) or take the train through the Egyptian countryside. On arrival you will be escorted to your HOTEL. Rest of day free to explore on your own. Stroll along the Corniche, wander easily through the streets of downtown, and stop at the one of the many cafes for a taste of local life. In the evening a seafood dinner is a must. Staff are there to assist you, but the best way to experience this city is on your own.
DAY 2: ALEXANDRIA (ancient & modern) A full day for sightseeing with visits to the Graeco-Roman Museum which contains about 40,000 valuable relics dating back to the 3rd century BC, the Roman Amphitheatre, Pompey's Pillar & Serapeaum, Catacombs of Kom es-Shugafa, Fort Qaitbey which once stood the lighthouse of Pharos (inaugurated in 283 BC), one of the wonders of the ancient world. End the day at Alexandria's most modern wonder, the Library "BIBLIOTHECA ALEXANDRINA".
DAY 3: ALEXANDRIA - CAIRO You may spend the day exploring the "Underwater Wonders" while diving in and around the harbour before returning to Cairo.
