Contemporary music seems to be the most complicated thing, if you start trying just to enumerate all the genres. Sometimes to define all the genres is an "impossible mission", because the number of them is constantly increasing. But you needn`t have much experience to define the mostly wide-spread one. Critics call it " pop music", and usual epithet to the word combination is "irritating", "annoying", "silly", "sugary" and whatnot. But why then is it so popular?

We are speaking not about Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Elton John and other stars, whose songs became classics of popular music lyrics. We mean modern R'n'B and Soul performers - the leaders of modern popular music lyrics. These two different kinds of one and the same Afro-American national music are indissolubly connected with each other. And it was Alicia Keys who brought this variety of popular music lyrics to the new level.
