Music is an essential part of our life. However, nowadays, it cannot be called a truly essential part of it. Music actually is a natural intuitive phenomenon and a human being can virtually perform and hear music in his mind without learning or understanding it. Music changes in the course of time, like the balance of things on the earth. Earlier, there have been music songs about the sun and grass; today there are songs about suicide, sex and murder.

The article will look at the ways of learning foreign languages through popular music (here we will deal with the German language in particular; however, the method can be easily applied to other languages too). Actually, the modern methodology of studying foreign languages does not only allow, but highly recommends to use authentic music lyrics at the lessons of foreign languages, as the means to increase the motivation of the students, develop their vocabulary and familiarize with new culture.
