The annual MTV music awards, honoring the best in rock and, recently, pop video clips, usually take place in late August or early September. For the first years of its existence, the MTV music awards show was held at different locations of Los Angeles. New York City became the "home" of the awards during the last few years and included the best performances of the superstars, often overwhelming the actual awards.

The American Music Awards show is one of the four annual major US music awards shows including the Billboard Music Awards, the Grammy Awards and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Annually, the show drives a great amount of spectators, TV viewers and, recently, Internet observers either to the stage where the action takes place, or to a TV and computer screens.
