Regarded as one of the most progressive annual festivals of the country, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival has grown to become the eminent world event since the establishment of the Festival in 1974. Since its foundation, the Festival has expanded to include various styles of performers, like jazz, country, rock, pop, newgrass and bluegrass.

Regarded as a significant part of American culture, bluegrass music traces its roots back to the English, Scottish and Irish people, who emigrated from the British Isles. It is also related to jazz and blues, the music of African-Americans.
