While planning your family vacation, take advantage of numerous family-friendly resorts, offering a stunning array of recreational
opportunities for adults and supervised activities for kids, so that the entire family can take in their favorite pastime. Such resorts are usually open all-the-year-round, with specials available.
Possibly one of the greatest family vacation destinations, Smugglers' Notch provides an extensive list of outdoors for children aged 3-17, including canoeing, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing and fishing, as well as some specialty programs, allowing kids to enjoy kayaking and skiing on wheels. This ski resort is wonderfully located in the Green Mountain, and hence, is ideal for family rest and recreation.
Arts-oriented children can make puppets and create jewelry, while science-minded kids are welcome to explore nearby wetlands. Activities are also offered for the smallest children aged 6 weeks to 3 years through the state-licensed child care facility Alice's Wonderland. However, your kids are not the only ones enjoying scores of opportunities. With all-day hikes and wildflower walks to a local winery and canoe adventures, parents won't be bored at this well-favored resort as well. Equipped with slides and sprays, water play pools are wonderful for the entire family to cool off after an event-packed day. In winter Smugglers' Notch offers instructional programs in snowboarding and skiing, in addition to fun and excitement of bonfires and sledding.
A National Historic Landmark and one of the friendliest and welcoming family vacation destinations, Mohonk Mountain House boasts a beautiful setting in the Shawangunk Mountains, some ninety miles north of New York. The resort that has a castle-like look provides its visitors with a chance to play tennis, hike miles of carriage roads, watch movies on the lawn and swim in the lake.
In winter Mohonk Mountain House is a great option for those interested in ice skating and gliding along cross-country trails. From early June through October, the Kid's Club offers swimming, frog hunts, bingo and nature hikes for children aged 2-12. And, of course, you should by all means enjoy the six-week arts festival with wonderful performances by string quartets, storytellers and mimes. During December holiday festival activities include decorating houses and roasting chestnuts.
While Homestead Resort has always been famous for its excellent spa, today it features a great variety of activities for preteens and teens, which makes the resort an ideal destination for family vacations. Nestled in the Allegheny Mountains, Homestead offers fantastic programs for recreation and rejuvenation, including various types of facials, personalized make-up lessons, Swedish massages and more treatments.
In addition to spa, activities at the resort include horseback riding, tennis and golf in summer, and skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice
skating, and cuddling in winter. With a range of kids sightseeing and a variety of activities, the Homestead Kids Club keeps children aged 3-12 busy, offering to try their hands at examining dinosaur fossils, designing jewelry and listening to folk tales by a storyteller.
Inaugurated in July 2003, the H-Club provides a hangout for teens.
