Enjoy Switzerland Ski Holidays In Europe's Top Resorts

Added: 01/17/2006

For most people, Switzerland is associated with watches, banks, cheese, chocolate, and mountains. Despite the fact that ski holidays were invented by the British, it is Switzerland that has the reputation of the world's skiing mecca, enjoying popularity with all levels of skiers. Spectacular mountain villages, beautiful scenery, world class resorts, and delicious cuisine - these are some of the features which make ski holidays in Switzerland so popular and eagerly awaited.

With its numerous spectacular ski resorts and superb skiing facilities, the country has something to offer to everyone to enjoy during Switzerland ski holidays. You won't be able to forget the amazing scenery, the highest runs, and the best service available at the majority of Swiss ski resorts.

Among the most popular destinations of tourists on Switzerland ski holidays are such world-class resorts as Zermatt, St. Moritz, Gstaad, Crans-Montana, and more.

One of the oldest and most conspicuous ski resorts in Switzerland, Crans-Montana comprises two villages, located above the Rhone valley. This 100-year-old resort offers spectacular views of the mountains, including the Matterhorn, as well as the surrounding lakes.

Skiers are offered three ski areas, Violettes, Amiona, and Cry d'Err, all of them equipped with modern ski lift systems. Most of the slopes are below 2,300m, which is quite suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers with plenty of long and wide runs. Beginners are offered the Ski School at Grand Signal, located above the village.

Due to its parks near the Plumachit ski lift and at Pas du Loup, Crans-Montana is a great destination for snowboarders. There are also a wide variety of activities for non-skiers, including horse riding, snow golf, and pleasant walks in the forest.

Restaurants, nightclubs, and bars are abundant, offering a variety of cuisines. With Crans-Montana, Switzerland ski holidays are a family-friendly option due to the number of children's facilities.

During several past decades, Crans-Montana has grown to be the multi-season destination resort, which can be compared to French Chamonix or Verbier.

Whenever you want the great mountain experience in charming surroundings, then Arosa is the best choice for your Switzerland ski holidays. Located at the Schanfigg Valley, Arosa consists of two areas, Ausserarosa, seen as the main resort, and Obersee lakelet.

There are about 70 km of blue and red trails designed for beginners and intermediates respectively. The advanced skiers are offered challenging terrain. With nearly 40 percent of runs for beginners, Arosa is a perfect place for skiers who are starting out. The majority of such runs can be found on the Tschuggen slopes. Intermediates are offered more than 57 percent of slopes, designated medium to difficult. Much of the terrain is off-piste, giving the opportunity to escape the crowds and enjoy untracked snow.

However, Arosa hasn't much to offer to advanced skiers looking for a challenge.

Arosa has all the charm of an Alpine village, offering plenty of opportunities for enjoying the great outdoors, ranging from skiing, ice skating, and sleigh rides to winter walks, keeping everyone busy. In fact, the resort has such a great number of sporting and non-sporting options, that you mustn?t necessarily be fond of skiing to enjoy a fun-filled holiday.

Because Arosa is recognized as a family-resort, nightlife is not found in abundance here. However, there are disco-clubs and bars with live music and a casino. Among the favorite attractions are the Eden hotel, with live music late to the night, and the Carmenna Hotel, famous for its ice rink.
