Situated 108 miles northwest of Frankfurt, 45 miles south of Dusseldorf and 17 miles south of Cologne, Bonn is the 19th largest city in Germany. It is located in the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Until 1949 it was a little university town suddenly gaining more prominence when it was made capital of West Germany, retaining this position until 1990, the year when Berlin became the official capital of the Federal Republic of Germany.
