Situated 108 miles northwest of Frankfurt, 45 miles south of Dusseldorf and 17 miles south of Cologne, Bonn is the 19th largest city in Germany. It is located in the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Until 1949 it was a little university town suddenly gaining more prominence when it was made capital of West Germany, retaining this position until 1990, the year when Berlin became the official capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. This intriguing history offers up a promise of excitement and wonder during Bonn travel.

Famous for its rich historic heritage, Bonn still functions as a second capital of Germany, with the six of major fifteen departments of the country's government remaining here. The city also boasts exciting musical and intellectual history: world-famous composer Beethoven was born here, pianist Clara Schumann and composer Robert Schumann lived here.  Heinrich Heine and Karl Marx studied in Bonn University. Among the city's latest cultural additions is the Museum Mile that includes the Kunstmuseum and the Bundeskunsthalle. From the XIII century through the XVIII century Bonn served as a capital of prince electors of Cologne.

One of the buildings along the famous Museum Mile, Kunstmuseum Bonn is home to some of the most important art collections along the Rhine, with the XX Century art as a highlight, including masterpieces by such outstanding expressionists as August Macke, Kirchner, Campen-Donk, Thuar, Ernts and Seehaus. Due to its extensive list of cultural events, Bonn can rival the larger communities in Berlin and Hamburg. One of the most widely reputed is La Scala of the Rhineland, where opera and ballet are performed from mid-August to June. Subject to a much Bonn travel, the Bonn Symphony Orchestra performs from September to June. On the intimate scale chamber music is presented within the Beethoven House. During the Bonner Summer Festival taking place from May to August, visitors can enjoy an international selection of music and dance groups in open air locations around the city.

While art lovers can enjoy a variety of art museums and galleries, shopping enthusiasts consider Bonn travel to be a wonderful opportunity to take in shopping venues. You'll find a number of shops that specialize in garments suitable for business and diplomacy. For women's clothing consider Beatrix Moden and La Belle.
