As of 2005 the Stowe Mountain Resort has invested some $30 million in various improvements, including new terrain and high-speed quads, as well as the first automated snowmaking systems. Known also as the Beast of the East, the resort claims to exceed mere regional importance, boasting four of the most challenging slopes in New England.
The Stowe Mountain Resort is divided between two mountains with the majority of its runs crossing Mount Mansfield, the highest peak of the state. It is here you'll be offered access to blue and several green slopes. The Four Runner Quad will bring you to the Front Four: Lift Line, National, Star and Goat, regarded as the top runs for experienced skiers. The quad will also put you at the top of Toll Road, a prominent green run, which is perfect for observing the Adirondacks, Lake Champlain and Mount Washington. Available by the quad are also glade runs, such as the Lookout Glades, Tres Amigos off Hayride and glades stretching from Rimrock.

Spring skiing and snowboarding are widely popular as well, due to the high level of annual snowfall. Other spring activities include mountain hiking, fishing, hunting and maple sugaring. Stowe Mountain Resort is a perfect destination in summer, seen as a great alternative to heat, crowds and traffic and offering numerous facilities for mountain biking, hiking, fishing, golf and others. Water sports enjoy wide popularity here, ranging from swimming, canoeing, kayaking to fishing. Autumn is a great time for biking and hiking with numerous bike paths and hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails, crossing the mountains.
Whenever you are looking for a family fun, Stowe Mountain Resort is the best choice, featuring an array of children-oriented facilities. Mud City Adventure Center for the Kids is a four season program, which focuses on fun and excitement. The Launch Zone Skate Park has spine ramp, half-pipe and street scene for skateboarders and skaters. The Stove Recreational Path, regarded as one of the ten Great Walks of the World, is the six mile route, winding through the forest to the center of Stowe Village. Visitors are free to enjoy shopping in the antique shops of the town and surrounding area. With more than fifty restaurants, offering astonishing variety of cuisine, dining itself is seen as a great attraction.
Stowe Vermont lodging options are extensive as well, ranging from inexpensive motels to fashionable spa resorts. Plentiful non-mountain attractions are offered all-the-year-round, including tours and excursions. One of the most prominent is the Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory, popular with both adults and children. 25 minutes away from Stowe is the state's capital Montpelier, close enough to make it a wonderful lunchtime destination.
