Efteling in Netherlands is a very beautiful park with scenic landscaping and gardens, awarded several times only for its beauty. Trees, flowers, ponds and a lake allow guests to feel free and pleasurable, and in fact, walking is one of its major attractions. The rides in the park are mostly of a moderate character, but the Efteling Park has a nice family appeal.
The Efteling Park was designed by a famous Dutch artist Anton Pieck in 1952, and it reminds its visitors of a magic world, coming from kids' literature illustrations. Since 1952, the Efteling Park continuously distinguishes itself with a tradition of one-of-the-kind thematic arrangement. Today, the amusement park includes a themed hotel, a golf resort and a recently added theatre and a dining complex. Live entertainment is of the same special and fairytale Efteling character, while its Wonderful Efteling Show was awarded IAAPA's Big E for the best park entertainment in 2003. That is the reason why the Efteling Park is a "must visit" for fairytale lovers, comprising kids, who like to read fairytale books, and their parents and grandparents, who tell fairytales and amusement stories before their toddlers go to bed.
The park is subdivided into four main areas, which are: Anderrijk (Alternative Realm) is the area of some extraordinary things; Ruigrjik (Adventure Realm) houses most of the coasters and white-knuckle rides; Marerijk (Fairy Realm) is a thematic land, where the attractions are based on storybook characters; and Reizenrijk (Travel Realm) is, where the attractions are based on journeys and travels around the world.
Many rides are skillfully set into the thematic design and are aimed more at admiration and spectacular views than at thrill. For instance, the Droomvlug (Dream flight) takes riders over an elfin forest, an Arabian palace and a jungle scene. Proper attention is given to details, such as delicate winged fairies and magical sparkling lights.
The Laavenlaaf (People of Laaf) - Carriages of the ride run on a track, high above the ground through the village of gnomes, the people of Laaf. The village has everything for a comfortable small people's "life", containing a school, where children are studying hard, a baker's windmill and a water wheel. There are some great slides, distorting mirrors and stepping stones to play with in the village, which make it a great place for younger children.
Some of the recommended thrill rides and attractions are the Python, Pirate Ship and Villa Volta. The Villa Volta is an amazing variant of the haunted house. Here you will feel like you are spinning round, upside down or hanging from the ceiling, but this illusion is a simple application of Einstein's Theory of Relativity: your body cannot tell the difference between your spinning around the room or the room, spinning around you. The Pirate Ship was once the biggest swinging ship in the world in the Guinness Book of Records. It is twenty five meters high and rushes through horizontal at fifty four kilometers per hour. The Python is a breathtaking roller coaster with loops, looking like a real python and painted white and red. The ride provides a rather good roller coaster experience.
