Don't oversleep your breakfast buffets !

Though the phenomenon of breakfast buffets seems to be comparatively new, it has a two centuries-hhistory. The buffet wasn't always the buffet in its present-day form. It first arrived as the Chuck Wagon. In western movies, a chuck wagon served breakfast, lunch and dinner to hungry cowhands. Practically each hotel of any rate offers lodgers breakfast buffets, and some of them - day buffets.


"Buffet". In our minds this word is associated with long rows of different meals, which can be eaten practically free. Or maybe an old- fashioned piece of furniture, where we keep tea-things and other utensils. In the  16th century French term "buffet" applied to the furniture on which  golden plates and vessels  were mounted, often draped with rich fabrics and textiles, but more often as the century advanced an elaborately carved cupboard with a large number of shelves.  In England such a buffet was called a court cupboard.
 Though the  phenomenon of breakfast buffets seems to be comparatively new, it has a two-centuries history. The roots of  it lead to France in the beginning of the 18th century. It was rather fashionable to help yourself eating breakfast,  cause it reflected the new ideals of privacy. So that even the highest aristocracy didn`t disdain self-serving, having a light meal eaten between breakfast and dinner.
 The buffet wasn't always the buffet in its present-day form. It first arrived as the Chuck Wagon. In western movies,  a chuck wagon served breakfast, lunch and dinner to hungry cowhands.
Nowadays there are many  forms of breakfast  buffets. One of them  is  when you eat first and then pay and the other form is when you pay a fixed sum of money and then eat as much as you can. The latter one was introduced in America by Herb McDonald, a famous casino publicist.  The second type is typical of hotels and is called "breakfast buffets". Practically each hotel of any rate offers breakfast buffets, and some of them - day buffets. The customer needn`t to pay before or after, the price is included into the  final account. It is very convenient, isn`t it? You  don't need to explore the city in search of place to have a breakfast in, or to spend money on gratuity to the waiters. 
The  essentials of a "buffet" luncheon are as follows: beverages: punch, coffee, chocolate (poured from urn, or filled cups brought from pantry on tray); hot entrees of various sorts (served from chafing dish or platter) preceded by hot bouillon; cold entrees, salads, lobster, potatoes, chicken, shrimp, with heavy dressings; hot rolls, wafer-cut sandwiches (lettuce, tomato, deviled ham, etc.); small cakes, frozen creams and ices. Of course the set of dishes may vary greatly. Nevertheless, many nutritionists consider breakfast a very important meal, since it provides vital nourishment and energy for starting the day. Studies have indicated that food eaten early in the day is less likely to contribute to fat gain than food eaten in the evening. Some of them include exotic and tropical fruit, local products. But it is more frequent that  European food is preferable and popular, even if your hotel is located in Uruguay.
Buffets remain as popular as ever and they are developing. There are themed  "day buffets" that highlight Hawaiian, Italian, Chinese, or German dishes, and "night buffets" that serve only seafood. The only problem which you can run into is that in many hotels breakfast buffets wait for you within  a certain period of time. Usually this period lasts 3-4 hours: since 7-7.30 till 10- 10.30 a.m.for the breakfast buffets, and 12.00-15.00 for day buffets. Seems impossible, but many people during their staying in hotels never tasted the buffet food, they just came too late every morning.  In the buffet -halls of  some hotels can be seen tables, preventing people from taking food outside. But they are not much of effect.
 Well, you see, breakfast buffets are a small pleasure of the hotel,  and cheers you up in the morning. So don't oversleepand miss  it!
