But all that does not mean that picturesque sandy shores are the main property and attraction as the region is the concentration of unique cultural heritage.

There are several places of interest in Roseau.  For example, the Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Fair Haven or the Old Market which was once used to buy and sell slaves and nearby the Old Post office which is now a Museum. A little to the south of the Roseau city centre is Fort Young Hotel, built as a fort in 1770. Destroyed by Hurricane David in 1979 it was soon rebuilt and is now open to the public.  Next to it is the wooden Carnegie Public Library built in 1906 and housing thousands of old manuscripts.

Somewhere opposite of the Library there is the State House in extensive grounds.  Next to it is the recently renovated House of Assembly which is now Roseau Parliament building. So, you see, there is a lot to see besides azure waters of the Caribbean! If you do not want to stay in downtown, there is a tranquil oasis about 15 driving minutes outside of Roseau, called Cocoa Cottages. Like a woodland cabin, the rooms are charmingly rustic but add the amenities of private bathrooms and "hot" showers. Building windows have no glass panes but are closed with louvered shutters - they are fashioned in colonial style.
