Freiburg is a city in Baden-Wurttemberg on the western edge of the southern Black Forest. The sunny microclimate of the city contributes to its reputation of the warmest and sunniest city in the country. Because of this, Freiburg is an all-the-year-round destination and a wonderful sports center attracting tourists from other parts of Germany and Europe. Located about 174 miles south of Frankfurt, 129 miles southwest of Stuttgart and 44 miles north of Basel, Freiberg is the largest city in the Black Forest region yet it is frequently overlooked due to its out-of-the-way location. However the city is silhouetted against mountain peaks that are only about an hour from Freiburg by car, making Freiburg travel not as difficult as one might expect.
