The tiny country of Benin has the highest concentration of attractions in West Africa - fetish markets, the remnants of the mighty culture that fed on the slave trade and architectural anomalies such as stilt villages and mud fortresses. It played a major role in the slave trade in the 17th and 18th century and many monuments here remind of that period.
