Cures for Terminal Depression

Added: 06/30/2005

Relaxation and entertainment services at major international airports

You are at the airport waiting for your flight and it's delayed... You are killing time browsing through duty-free stores, getting drunk at the bar, reading...  What else can you do to fight the pre-flight anxiety also known as terminal depression? Major airports are offering diverse solutions to this problem.

Changi Airport, Singapore

Changi Airport features a nature trail where travelers can enjoy a walk in a cactus, bamboo, sunflower or orchid gardens or sit by the pond watching Koi, the most colorful and expensive of all freshwater fish. Its beauty lies in its dramatic color that changes as it matures. A priced Koi is judged by its body and fin structure, its graceful swim and the brightness and distinction of its colors.

Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam

Do you want to get rid of the weariness of traveling for a moment by doing something exciting? The Schiphol casino is the right place to do that. You will find the Schiphol Casino between gates E and F and in Lounge 1. Opening hours are from 06:00 to 20:00 hours, admission is free. You will also find game machines on several locations in the Terminal.

If you are not much of gambler, Schiphol offers a Meditation centre for all religions. At the Meditation centre, there is a selection of books from different religions in various languages available for perusal by the passengers. It is possible for a group to hold its own service at the Meditation Centre during opening hours. On Sundays, there is a church service at 11.00 hours. Alternately there is a Mass, and Anglican service or a Protestant service. In principle, all services are in English.

Abu Dhubi

An 18-hole sand gold course located just 10 minutes away from the terminal building is made of specially compacted grain, so your ball won't sink below the surface. A free bus will take you there, so that you can relax before taking off.

Nagoya

Need an additional portion of local culture before leaving Japan? Try a relaxation facility, "Miya no Yu", on the 4th floor of the airport. It is a bath with a great view. You can watch airplanes departing and arriving, the sky, ocean and horizon, and mountains on the opposite bank while taking a bath.

Frankfurt

You have a choice of watching the planes taking off from the sky lounge or have a more eye-opening time watching movies in the Dr. Muller's Sex Shop in Terminal C. If you have been inspired by a movie, you can further explore the store shopping for erotic lingerie, magazines, or DVDs.

Vancouver

See your flight delay at the monitor while taking a deep breath through a tube inserted into your nose and pumping pure oxygen tinted with an orange scent up your left nostril at the Absolute Spa. Oxygen is known for its calming and relaxing effect and the procedure will only cost you around $15.
