In 1999, when the Voyager of the Seas entered service as the largest cruise ship in the world, she was also heralded as the most revolutionary ship ever built, forever changing the world of cruising with such never-before-seen features, as an ice skating rink/TV studio/concert arena, a rock-climbing wall, an in-line skating track, a horizontal atrium, and inside cabins with a promenade view. The rock-climbing walls are now aboard every Royal Caribbean ship and the ice skating rink and the other features can also be enjoyed on the four other Voyager-class ships, though the Voyager of the Seas is still mind boggling, memorable and exciting -- isn't that what they say about the first of anything?

The Voyager ship is the largest cruise ship afloat. In 1998, Princess Cruises introduced the Grand Princess, which was then ballyhooed as the largest cruise ship on the planet. In November, Royal Caribbean International will have the last laugh. The Voyager of the Seas weighs hundred and forty two thousand tons, making it thirty three thousand tons bigger. This small floating city will sail on seven-night trips from Miami, calling at Labadee, Hispaniola; Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Cozumel, Mexico. The Voyager of the Seas will be able to accommodate nearly four thousand guests and over one thousand crew. The combined total of more than five thousand people is larger than the population of some entire Texas counties.
