China hotels: brand names and less known varieties

Added: 02/15/2006

Traveling through China can be extremely eventful, exciting and surprisingly inexpensive. Accommodation is as important as the places you are supposed to see, and China is widely renowned as a hospitable country with welcoming tourist services. China hotels are diverse; everything from world-renowned foreign and local national chains to modest and ordinary Chinese hotels can be found here.

China hotels can be as different as the country?s terrain and regional varieties. As anywhere else, there are hotels that are extremely awkward and squalid and there are hotels, which are famous worldwide for chic and unpretentious amenities, facilities and services, as well as for numerous fare reductions.

There are two types of China hotels: well-known foreign and local brand hotels, such as Sheraton, Hyatt, Marriott or Pudong Shangri-La, and ordinary Chinese-owned and ?run hotels. For those, who prefer familiar names, the first variant makes the primary choice. In most cases, a brand name company provides staff training and senior management to ensure conformity with brand standards.

National China hotels at four- and five-star levels often provide the same quality as foreign brands, but for higher prices. In fact, the China hotel industry welcomes well-known brands and the foreign market is developing fast here, introducing annually new to China names, which maintain high quality hotel services and accommodation.

An important thing is that according to the China National Tourism Administration, about twenty six hotels in China have been selected as ?Asia?s Best Hotels?. The majority of them are in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. For instance, the best business hotel in Asia, winning polls year by year, is the Portman Ritz-Carlton, located in Nanjing Xi Lu 1376, Shanghai. The best historic hotel is the Peace Hotel, also situated in Shanghai, Nanjing Dong Lu 20.

However, trip advisors often criticize China hotels of medium and lower levels. Sometimes, instead of a saloon, a massage and a karaoke bar, featured in the advertisement of a less known hotel, you will come across some other illegal entertainment, aimed exclusively at men. Hence, it is necessary to look for a hotel in China with more care, regarding all details, reservations and fares. Certainly, there are numerous friendly and comfortable small China hotels, but aliens to China should better rely on familiar brands and China hotels above three stars in order not to be disappointed.

The more inspiring fact for foreign visitors is that it is possible to bargain down the hotel fare in the majority of China hotels. If you are a talented bargainer, you will not pay more than thirty percent of the price asked, while in most cases visitors never pay more than ninety percent. Some trip advisors do not recommend booking a room in advance, but to come up to the counter and bargain.

Nevertheless, the websites, offering China hotels discounts, commonly feature the same discounts if you directly contact the hotel, though you can look through all facilities and amenities on the web, look at the photos of exterior and interior and head for your vacation already aware that your room is already waiting for you. Hence, booking through the net is more a choice of convenience rather than of saving your money.

What concerns China flights, you can absolutely entrust your air travel to the national China airlines. The China Southern Airlines and Air China are some of the largest international and domestic carriers with in-flight entertainment, frequent flyer programs an discounts. The China Southern Airlines maintains flights to and from all major international destinations, including Amsterdam, Bangkok, Fukuoka, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Los Angeles, Manila, Melbourne, Osaka, Paris, Penang, Phnom Penh, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo, while Air China specializes in the first and business class air travel to London Heathrow.
