Planning your vacation with such major operators as Stanaline, P&O Ferries, Sea France, Condor Ferries, DFDS Seaways and Red Tunnel, specializing in car ferries to France, provides you with a wonderful opportunity to explore all of the major sites any time of the year and for as long as you wish.
The recognized leader in the travel industry, Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, commonly referred to as P&O offers a variety of passenger routes, including Dover - Calais, Portsmouth - La Havre, Portsmouth - Bilbao, Hull - Zeebrugge and Hull - Rotterdam just to name a few. The company was formed in 2002 as a result of amalgamation of P&O North Sea Ferries and P&O Portsmouth.
Prior to P&O Stena joint services from Dover, Portsmouth and Felixstowe were operated under the name of P&O European Ferries until it was purchased by P&O group in 1987. Despite the fact that the company closed some of its routes in early 2005, it still offers a number of great options, with car ferries to France enjoying the greatest popularity.
One of the largest ferry operators in the world, offering ferry services around the United Kingdom and Scandinavia -- Stena Line is a major unit of Stena AB, one of the Stena Sphere's subsidiaries. It was established by Sten Allan Olsson in 1962 and managed to grow significantly by 1985 through the acquisition of one Dutch operation and two Scandinavian ferry operators. With the purchase of Sealink British Ferries in 1990, known formerly as Sealink, the company doubled in size.
In 1996 it introduced its High-speed Sea Service vessels that operate from Hoek van Holland-Harwich, Holyhead-Dun Laoghaire and Belfast-Stranraer. Currently Stena Line offers a wide range of routes to Europe's major destinations. Among those enjoying great popularity are car ferries to Ireland, with the following routes: Fishguard - Rosslare, Holyhead - Dublin Port and Holyhead - Dun Laoghaire.
Possibly one of the greatest options for those planning to spend their vacation in France -- the Eurotunnel Group consists of Eurotunnel plc, operating in the United Kingdom, and Eurotunnel SA in France. Established in August 1986, the company manages the Channel Tunnel between the United Kingdom and France and operates the car shuttle, earning revenue on other trains passing through the tunnel. With Eurotunnel plc, specializing in different types of car ferries to France, you are sure to enjoy your vacation to the greatest extent.
Established in 1981 thanks to a merger of Hoverlloyd and Seaspeed, Hoverspeed was one of the leading ferry companies operating the Dover-Calais route during the period of 1981 to 2005. The company prides itself on the development of the Hovercraft, and in fact ran six Mountbatten class hovercrafts on the Dover to Calais service through October 2000. During the last year of its operation, Hoverspeed specialized in running a small fleet of high speed car ferries to France, but had to cease its operations on Dover-Calais route in November 2005. Though the future of the company is not known, it is likely to move to Sea Mediterranean services.
