Added: 06/27/2005

Cancun is one of the most modern and most visited resorts in Mexico, a place for everybody, from students on a strict budget to the rich and famous from all over the world.

Cancun is one of the most modern and most visited resorts in Mexico, a place for everybody, from students on a strict budget to the rich and famous from all over the world. Situated on the tip of the Yucatan peninsula, it is connected to the Mexican mainland by two bridges. The city itself is located on the mainland whereas the sizzling hotel zone with all the attractions of a leading world resort occupies a 20 kilometre-long island.

Everything here is made to fascinate and offer the best service to a tourist. The beaches are, without a doubt, the biggest attraction with their soft, brilliantly white sand and crystal clear, turquoise water. All eleven beaches are open to the public, the very best of which are considered to be those at the north tip of the island.

As it lies next to the largest coral reef in the Americas, it is one of the finest world resorts for scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing and sailing. There's also a 250-acre ecological Mayan theme park along the coastline, named Xcaret, 45 minutes from Cancun. The park features an underground river for swimming and a Dolphinarium where the visitors can swim with the dolphins. Even though it's advertised as a Water Park, many of you can find the land attractions even more exciting: well preserved Mayan ruins; aviary and a small zoo with local animals; a beautiful botanical garden, mushroom, orchid and butterfly farms. A bird watching day trip over to Isla Mujeres, the Discovery Island Location, and Isla Contoy can be taken as well. A fascinating Jungle Tour Adventure takes place in the Nichupte Lagoon and the Mangrove Forest, where one can drive a two-person speedboat and head to Punta Nizuc, part of one of the largest coral reefs in the world.

Tired of all the sports activities in the sun and water? Take a break and indulge yourself in various shops around! Cancun is definitely a heaven for shoppers. It has both outdoor plazas with small shops and markets where you can stroll and dine in one of the numerous cafes, and large modern indoor malls with international brands stores for those who like everything in one place.

In the evening you will find restaurants with some of the world's most famous chefs as well as fast-food outlets. Here you'll enjoy delicious meals from all over the world in stunning atmosphere created by water views, candlelit tables, lace tablecloths, comfortable furniture and an excellent, always-with-a-smile service.

Cancun's nightlife is as alluring: dance clubs cover everything from rock and reggae to salsa, usually opening at 10p.m. and working until dawn. For someone looking for a calmer atmosphere the city offers jazz and piano bars, as well as those with traditional mariachi music. In spring a huge Spring Jazz Festival takes place in the city.

If you are searching for calm, peaceful days to enjoy the sun and the sand, the crystal indigo seas, romantic Caribbean nights, world class hotels, restaurants and nightlife; this is Cancun!
