Canberra's clubs - If you are looking for a great atmosphere and a friendly chat

Added: 05/02/2006

Canberra has lots of attractions; there is a huge number of Canberra clubs, which are open for visitors and tourists. You can visit clubs, cocktail bars and pubs in the City center. Or if you are traveling around the city and happen to stay somewhere in the surrounding suburbs, there you are likely will find lots of stylish cocktail lounges, pumping Canberra's clubs, and traditional pubs with live music and beer gardens.

Comparing to Melbourne or Sidney, Canberra nightlife and selection of Canberra's clubs are not so exciting. However, you will find some remarkable places to visit.

For example, the city center has many clubs, the most popular among which are The Private Bin, Pandora's, Heaven, and Bobby McGee's. These Canberra's clubs are nightclubs for an act nightlife; better to go there for a night party, cocktail drinking and dancing. Also in the center of the city you can visit such famous nightclubs as Mooseheads, the Sportsman's Bar and the Civic pub.

If you are interested in national (not Australian) atmosphere, why not to go to the one of famous Canberra's clubs - Wig and Pen (located also in the City). Wig and Pen is a small microbrewery with English beer and great live entertainment, normally presenting Irish music. Especially this place is popular when everybody finishes work on a Friday afternoon.

Another famous place for a great atmosphere and a friendly chat is George Harcourt Inn, located in the North in Hall village. This is a small English pub, but it has a great atmosphere and some really good live-act nightlife entertainments.

Another national spot is Gypsy Bar. Maybe you should go and try this rather new addition to the Canberra nightlife. The Gypsy bar offers good live music in the City Centre and boasts a great lineup from local to international acts.

Two Universities are located in Canberra - Canberra University, located on the North side and The Australian National University in the City. The Universities organize some great bands and dance parties. There is always something going on at least at one of the Universities. Research the week program and go to rest with students. Great places to go, but normally crowded.

If you  travel around the city and happen to stay somewhere in the surrounding suburbs, there you are likely will find lots of stylish cocktail lounges, pumping Canberra's clubs, and traditional pubs with live music and beer gardens. For sport-lovers some of clubs offer live sporting telecasts.

Most of Canberra's clubs, pubs and cocktail bars are located in the Garema Place and nearby City Walk, the historic Sydney and Melbourne Buildings. Also good places to go could be found in the fashionable inner city suburbs of Kingston and Manuka, and in Dickson's Chinatown area.

In the inner south you can visit Manuka and Kingston which are well known for their cosmopolitan atmosphere. If you are from 18 to 30 years old, this area is for you. Here you can find many cafes, late night bakery's, Canberra's clubs and pubs. The place is very popular.

In Woden area there is the Contented Soul. This is a small pub, located in the corner of an outdoor courtyard of the local shopping center and is just beautiful inside. The staff is great and friendly and an atmosphere is fantastic.

A little bit further down the road (Southlands), you will find Spur's. This is Canberra's Country club. A beautiful timber interior, tables, a great bar and dance floor. On the weekends here you can listen to live bands which play country music.  DJs are working also during weekends. This place has a great relaxed atmosphere and is becoming a very popular on Friday and Saturday nights.
