It appears strange enough why not many bullfighting newspapers are available in English, as bullfighting marks the centuries of traditions and multi-cultural recognition. Bullfighting is popular in many countries and, in fact, not only nationals attend bullrings. Why not to write about bullfighting truthfully? Nevertheless, many American newspapers and periodicals feature materials, aimed to cover the most negative aspects of the tradition, though there are interesting and profound points of the culture as well. Unfortunately, the majority of bullfighting newspapers and periodicals are in Spanish or Portuguese only. Here are some of them.
"6 Toros 6" is a rich Spanish weekly publication. The articles are profound and detailed with an excellent use of color photography. The subscriptions outside Spain for twenty four copies are available at Genet SL, c/Mayor 6-3-1, 28013 Madrid, Spain.
"Aplausos" is a glossy Spanish weekly newspaper, devoted to bullfighting news and reports. It contains mainly black and white photography, but some color adverts are present too. The subscriptions are available in Spain, Portugal, France, Europe, America, Africa and Asia, and accessible at Avda Baron de Carcer 48-5P, 46001 Valencia, Spain. You can pay by a bank cheque or an International Money Order.
"Torero et Toro" is a glossy all color French magazine with posters and articles on individual toreros and ganaderias. It is probably the best publication in the market, but not a very frequent one. To subscribe outside France is possible at 22 rue de Billancourt, 92771 Boulogne France (Tel : (1) 48 25 14 26, Fax (1) 46 04 10 11).
"ABC" is one of Spanish bullfighting newspapers, which contains daily bullfight reports during the season. An electronic version is available on the World Wide Web.
Finally, some bullfighting clubs publish their own magazines, such as Taurine Bibliophiles of America's "La Busca", Club Taurino of London's "La Divisa", Club Taurino of Chicago's "Pases y Lances", Pena Los Noruegos' "The Hornet", etc.
http://mundo-taurino.org/ provides an access to more than twenty bullfighting newspapers and periodicals from Barcelona, Madrid, Mexico, Canada and more. Here you can find an online access to the largest Portuguese bullfighting newspaper in Canada with the coverage of bullfights in California and Canada and a weekly bilingual (Spanish-English) newspaper, published in San Diego California since 1976. Mexican bullfighting newspapers feature Mexican plazas and the appearance of Mexican toreros outside the country.
Due to San Diego?s proximity to Mexico, The San Diego Union-Tribune occasionally features articles about bullfighting, which is illegal in the United States. Although the opinions about publishing bullfighting articles in the North American newspaper are controversial, the reporters actually write truthful and intelligent stories, showing bullfighting as a way of Spanish life and ambitious culture.
Nevertheless, as it was mentioned above, the majority of bullfighting newspapers are not available in English. Supposedly, avid readers will be able to translate or find the information on the web.
