Warren County is located in southern Kentucky. It was formed in 1796 from Logan County and named to honor General Joseph Warren. The county seat is Bowling Green. The town was founded in 1798 and is located on the Barren River. It is the fourth largest city in Kentucky. Bowling Green blends an appreciation for the architectural history with a commitment to the future historic sites such as our Fountain Square Park and historic L&N Depot, unique natural resources such as Lost River Cave, and world-class attractions such as the Corvette Museum have something for everyone.
The city of Bowling Green was nominated and chosen as one of 2006's Dozen Distinctive Destinations and now it's the first city in Kentucky to be chosen. The Dozen Distinctive Destinations is an award that is given out to 12 cities each year. These communities across the country need to offer Americans enjoyable natural along with delightful aesthetic, historic, recreational, and cultural experiences.
The locations chosen must have a dynamic downtown, walking access for residents and visitors, architecture, cultural diversity, an economic base of locally owned small businesses.
Bowling Green a lively enough place and offers a treat for sports car enthusiasts. The Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac XLR are made in a General Motors plant in Bowling Green; the National Corvette Museum is near the plant. One-hour tours of the General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant take a step-by-step look at the manufacture of one of the great symbols of the American Dream. There's also a former Shaker settlement, with furniture displays and crafts for sale, 11 miles west of Bowling Green. The city is also home to Western Kentucky University, the world headquarters of Fruit of the Loom and Holley Performance Products. Famed food critic Duncan Hines was a Bowling Green native. Bowling Green, Kentucky is a real great place to visit.
Another great place to visit in Kentucky is Lexington. Lexington, the seat of Fayette county and is situated in the centre of what the Kentuckians affirm to be the finest body of land in the world. Lexington is a singularly neat and pleasant town, on a little stream that meanders through it. It has an air of leisure and opulence that distinguishes it from the busy bustle and occupation of bigger cities.
Lexington is the home of the University of Kentucky, Lexington Community College, Central Kentucky Technical College, Lexington Theological Seminary, and Transylvania University. The university, which has become so famous, is taking a higher standing, than the other seminaries in the western country. There is generally an air of ease and politeness in the social intercourse of the inhabitants of this town, which evinced the cultivation of taste and good feeling. Literature is most commonly the topic of conversation in Lexington, so no wonder it has taken the tone of a literary place, and may be fitly called the Athens of the West.
You'll find a balance in conveniences and defects in Kentucky which is appended to all earthly paradises.
