Blue Bell Creameries is the manufacturer of Blue Bell brand ice cream, made since 1911. Its corporate headquarters are at the "Little Creamery" in Brenham, Texas. Started in an abandoned cotton gin in 1907, the company today has over 3,500 employees and produces ice cream, frozen dietary desserts, nonfat frozen yogurt, sherbet, and frozen snacks, including Blue Bell Ice Cream Sandwiches, Snickers, Nestle's Crunch, and Eskimo Pie. The company's best ice cream flavor, Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla, is the best-selling single flavor of ice cream in the US.
In the beginning Blue Bell Creameries only made butter, but by 1911, the company made a gallon or two of ice cream a day. They packed it in a large wooden tub with ice and salt and delivered it by horse and wagon to a few of our friends and neighbors around Brenham. Blue Bell ice cream had to be pretty special back then because everybody made their own. The little creamery really began to grow when it traded the horse and wagon for a horseless carriage in the late 1920's. By 1930, the company had become Blue Bell Creameries and was on its way. A lot has changed at Blue Bell Creameries since 1907 but it's still the best in the country.
From the beginning, Blue Bell Creameries has been preoccupied with the homemade taste of our ice cream. So much so that they have people whose only job is to taste every flavor of Blue Bell to make sure it's perfect. However, everyone from the Chairman on down is fastidious about the special taste of the ice cream. By retiring some of the old ones, they make room for the new. Blue Bell ice cream is made the old fashioned, traditional way, so it tastes just like it was homemade in a hand cranked freezer. The company only uses the finest milk, cream, sugar and other ingredients money can buy and they top it off with the special skills and knowledge the company's perfected over the years. They'll be cranking it out as soon as the fruit is harvested.
In addition to ice cream, the company sells yogurt, frozen treats, sherbet, and low-fat and sugar-free ice creams. Blue Bell is slowly expanding from its strong regional base surrounding Texas, but retains total control of production and distribution.
