Blizzard Beach In Orlando, Florida: The Most Original Water Park

Being the only place in Florida where visitors can see snow everywhere, and enjoy ice in their soft drinks only, Blizzard Beach is the largest and newest water park within the Walt Disney World Resort, located in Orlando, Florida. Established originally as a ski resort, it was transformed into a water park, inviting everyone to shred the peaks and surf the slopes on such rides as Toboggan Racer, and enjoy other plentiful attractions.
Due to the unique combination of the tropical water adventure park, excitement, and the atmosphere of a major ski resort, Blizzard Beach in Orlando is recognized as a prominent tourist destination, attracting huge crowds of visitors. According to one legend, the water park was created by a winter storm, which dropped much snow over Walt Disney World, and had resulted in the first ski resort being designed immediately. However, when the temperature rose, the hot Florida sun changed all ski runs into water slides, creating the third water park within the Walt Disney World property.

The frosty theme still dominates the water park, with bobsled and sledding runs and slalom courses, frequently used as downhill water slides. Melting snow discloses the view of alluring sandy beaches, a scaled down kid's area, and a pre-teen section, as well as a number of other activities. The most pleasant feature of the park is that, while the guests are surrounded by snow and ice, the water remains 80-84 degrees all-the-year-round.

Established in 1995, Blizzard Beach in Orlando can be found north of Disney's All-Star Resort. As visitors enter the water park, they are greeted by skiers sliding down Mt. Gushmore, the 90-foot snow capped mountain. It is home to the Downhill Double Dipper, the newest waterslide, as well as the largest one, standing 200 feet long and 50 feet high. The mountain also features toboggan sled runs, slalom courses, and the thrilling 120 foot high Summit Plummet, recognized as the fastest and tallest free fall speed slide in the nation, visible from every part of the water park.

Other prominent attractions of Mt. Gushmore include Teamboat Springs, the longest white-water raft ride in the world, designed to carry six-passenger rafts down awesome water falls; Toboggan Racer, an eight-lane water slide, allowing guests to race over great dips as they descend a snowy slope; Runoff Rapids, the inner tube run, throwing guests down three turning flumes; Chair Lift, carrying guests from Mt. Gushmore's base at the beach to its summit and back; Melt-Away Bay, located against the Mt. Gushmore's base and constantly filled with melting snow waterfalls; and Cross Country Creek, stretching throughout the entire water park and carrying guests through the ice cave.

Blizzard Beach in Orlando also has a lot for its small guests to visit, including Blizzard Beach Ski Patrol Training Camp, designed for pre-teens, and Tike's Peak, which is a kid-size variant of Blizzard Beach.

The best way to start your adventures at the water park is Summit Plummet, recognized as the flagship attraction at Blizzard Beach in Florida.

The houses in the Village at the Blizzard Beach offers its guests such services as towel rentals, merchandize, first aid, lockers, and a restaurant. Available within the village is the specialty shop, Beach House, offering bathing suits, sunglasses, towels, and other gear for a day in the water. Cold weather furnishings and ski equipment are used for merchandize display.

A ski resort amidst a tropical lagoon, Blizzard Beach in Orlando differs greatly from the other two water parks at Walt Disney World Resort, seen as the greatest destination.
