Blackgang Chine attractions for most curious kids

Added: 02/23/2006

The Blackgang Chine Fantasy Park, located on the Isle of Weight, the UK, is a land, full of adventures, legends and fantasies. In its 40 acres of scenic gardens and thematic areas you will find anything from fairyland folks and charming goblins to prehistoric dinosaurs and amusingly impudent pirates. The most extravagant Blackgang Chine attractions include the Giant Hedge Maze, the Water Gardens and the Hall of Funny Mirrors.

The cliff-top gardens of Blackgang Chine, spreading over 40 acres of land, disguise surprises around every corner. The Blackgang Chine attractions are known for their utmost eccentricity, extreme diversity and outstanding designs. Many Blackgang Chine attractions are dedicated to amusing learning, while the others bring the visitors into unknown worlds of fairytales, legends and myths.
Two award-winning heritage Blackgang Chine attractions are Blackgang Sawmill - the World of Timber and St. Catherine's Quay - the Maritime World.

Blackgang Sawmill - the World of Timber is an exhibition of lively displays, featuring the story of wood, suitably set in an old water mill. The displays comprise the Blacksmith's Display, Wheelwright's Workshop, Mill Owner's Cottage, Working Steam & Oil Engines, Timber at Sea, Timber in the Home and the Mill Pond Gardens.

St. Catherine's Quay - the Maritime World is dedicated to the dramatic story of Blackgang's coast. The displays are the Unique Shipwreck Collection, RNLI Lifeboat & Display, Coastal Erosion, 87 foot Whales Skeleton, Paddle Steamer, Engine Room and 19th Century Beach Scene. Note that the very word "blackgang" is legendary and is connected with the images of smugglers, shipwrecks and wild storm lashed shores. The story, which you will see and feel via St. Catherine's Quay's displays, will terrify you with its unexpectedness and intrigue.

Themed areas, enormously stimulating the children's imagination and fantasy, include Dinosaurland, Nurseryland and Fantasyland. The full sized Wild West Cowboy Town, set within Frontierland even contains gold panning activities. A Pirate Fort provides an adventure play, as does the full sized Smuggler's boat. A Land full of Dinosaurs is an encounter with the most ancient animals, inhabiting our planet. Here are also Troublesome Goblins and Fairyland Folk, the Charity Gnomes Garden, the 'Lost Valley' Landscape and the Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Giant Hedge Maze, Water Gardens and the Hall of Funny Mirrors are Blackgang Chine attractions, which have been developed through many years.

The major animated indoor shows are The Crooked House, The Musical Pet Shop, the Triassic Dinosaur Club, the Smuggler's Cave, the Weather Wizard, the Rumpus Mansion and the Fairy Castle. Certainly, there are the most sophisticated amusement rides for adrenaline seekers. The Water Force is a 100 meter high speed boat slide. It is popular with thrill seeking teens, while the young ones can enjoy a junior ride, the Tea Cups Roundabout.

From its start in 1843, the Blackgang Chine Fantasy Park has seen annual innovations and improvements, which provide a prolific base for children's play and research. Today, there are at least thirty five major attractions at Blackgang Chine, bringing to the area hundreds of school groups and families from around the country. The newest attraction of Blackgang Chine is the Cliffhanger, a family roller coaster that is perched near the edge of vertical cliffs, climbs to 400 feet above the sea before dropping nearly 40 feet in twists and turns.
